As of march of this year we here inm Maine need to have a clearly visible inspection sticker on our bikes.I was wondering if anyone here might have some photos for ideas on the best way to do this without it looking totally foolish. Thanks

Yeah I just thought that if it had to be displayed now might aswell make it look as good as can be. Sounds like the plate same one the sell @ british customs would not look too bad.Just cant seem to find to many photos with them on a bike. Thanks much

The inspection station SHOULD know where it has to go. When I lived in RI, the inspector handed me the sticker and told me to put it anywhere I wanted as long as it was visible from the back and that it wasn't on the plate.

none of my bikes have had an inspection sticker since the one they came with new or the one they had when I bought it. We are supposed to have it on the left lower fork leg. People used to put them on a small stainless plate so it isn't messing up the finish on their bike but they are not supposed to do that here now.

In MO they usually go on the back side of the front fork sort of tucked under the lower yoke.

This may not be legal everywhere. It's not legal in Texas I don't think, but I use it anyway.... Chrome Inspection Sticker Plate

I wonder if the sticker would fit in a traditional tax stamp disk? tax stamp disk source

Thankfully North Carolina did away with inspection stickers a couple of years ago now. You have to get an inspection before you can renew your license. When I did have a sticker I mounted my inspection sticker plate on the front fork brake caliper bolt. I got my plate from a harley dealer for 5 dollars. Imagine that.

Virginia insection stickers are are about 3"x5" and look awful on a bike. It appears that in Virginia, location depends on who inspects it and who you talk to. When my son had his new bike inspected the inspector insisted the sticker had to go on the front right fork and it looked terrible. Before getting mine inspected I checked with the inspection station I that I take to my car to and he verified that the front fork would have to be the location. Called the state police and the Trooper told me it could go anyplace on the left side of the bike. I had it applied to the lower left frame beside the shock. You would think there would be some official directive about decal locations.

Just like they give directions for reg. renewal stickers... TO BE PLACED IN UPPER RIGHT CORNER OF PLATE, and to see them stuck anywhere and everywhere on the plate.

I staple mine to the registration because they look messy especially on a vanity plate. The only thing any cop has ever said to me is - "nice bike"

Sympathies to everyone who has to deal with a sticker. Here in NJ they did away with inspection stickers awhile back. Thank goodness. Move to NJ!

Virginia code was changed a few years back to allow for a plate instead of attaching directly to the bike. The new code says that it must be visible from the left side of the bike. Some inspection stations will say that it has to be on the left side, front half but that is not actually in the written code. In Texas, back some years ago they added the requirement that the bigass honk'n sticker had to be displayed below the license plate, period. Ugly as hell. On my wife's Speedy, I mounted the plate to the left passenger peg mount. Her bike is rigged for solo so this was an available spot. I also carry a copy of the code section below along with the registration. Quote:
Virginia Administrative Code 19VAC30-70-50. Approval stickers and decals.
E. The decal issued to a motorcycle shall be affixed to the left side of the cycle where it will be most visible after mounting. The decal may be placed on a plate on the left side where it will be most visible and securely fastened to the motorcycle for the purpose of displaying the decal.

I called the Va State Police to get the official information on sticker location. They said it could be anywhere on the left side of the bike as long as it was readily visible. When I took it in for inspection the inspector insisted it had to go on the left fork. After a long discussion and consultation with his fellow workers, he reluctantly agreed to put it where I told him on the rear left frame. Don't rely on the inspector. Get the official word from the police.

Holy Cowness! That's gotta suck! To be fair, an inspection sticker could be designed for the cars in V. too. Proportional in size. Say 12"X16". That would make people think twice about this stupid bike sticker!

years ago in my early riding days the sticker was usually placed on the rear fender.

I always put mine on the left leg of the swingarm. Fortunately, they no longer require them here.

this thing's been asleep for three months so's I mite comment a bit. i don't want no steenkin' sticker on nuthin' i got. if i hasta have one, it's not gonna be stuck some place and make my vehicle ugly. i would just carry it like a registration paper and hand it to the nice officer, all laminated and shiny.
we has to have a 4x5 inspection sticker on trucks here and it hasta be affixed to the door. well i has this nice three stage pearl paint and i'm not stickin' that ugly thing to my door. when i gets stopped by the DOT i just hand the laminated sticker along with all 24 other documents we hafta carry around and so far the reception has been great.
call me Buck the System, but i has always erred on the side of common sense.

Here the sticker has to affixed to the vehicle to be valid. You could get one sticker and use for multiple vehicles if you did stick it on. They don't even allow you to have it on a removable stainless plate bolted to the bike here even though some do that.

Here in NZ your vehicle has to have a WOF (Warrant of Fittness) to be registered. No WOF no Rego. If the WOF runs out then you need to renew it before your next rego is due. Vehicles up to 10 years (I think) old need a WOF yearly then it change's to evry 6 months. YAY for us......

The one and only good thing about New Jersey is that we dropped MC inspection altogether. Well, that and the fact that you can get Taylor Ham just about anywhere...

Bought mine new from the show room. D&D in Norfolk. They put the sticker on a plate down by the forks. Looks clean doesn't jack the lines of the bike up and it meats the law. If your state allows it id go that route.
