In addition to almost dieing I had to put one of beloved dogs down today. I had no choice, I had been giving her 2 raw eggs every morning and ham and chese at lunch and hotdogs for dinner plus she was still eating her dog food. Despite all that she just kept losing weight, vet didn't know why, could find nothing wrong with her. She went very peacefully, she fell asleep with me stroking her head and never woke when the IV was put in or the injection was done. She passed very peacefully. I am OK because I saw it coming for months, I am still sad and cried and I loved her very deeply but she was ready and I knew there was no choice. I am missing her presence very much and it is rough on top of trying to recover from my own health issues. She had lost weight to the point of seeing her hip bones, ribs, and spine. She was alert and had a ravenous appetite as always until yesterday when she stopped eating. I am now down to just Porkchop.

Sorry to hear Ian, I know it's tough loosing your furry friends, maybe in a few weeks you can visit your local pound and change one (or two) of its boarders life's for the better.

Darn, Ian, that’s double tough. I remember when Harley went and I know how much affection you have for them. Our dog loving family sends its condolences...we only get them for such a short time but the joy they bring lasts a lifetime.

I am sorry you had to put down Peanut, Ian. There’s no worse task a dog owner has to perform. Just think of the good times you had together and how much you loved each other. I hope your health continues to improve.

My sympathies and condolences losing someone who loves you as much as your dog is hard. I hope you follow Two_Wheel_n suggestion and save another dog from a short and unhappy life.

Thanks guys, I was more prepared for Peanut she had been losing weight and I knew it was coming. I am still very upset but am handling it better. I will always rescue another dog from the pound when I lose one. Once I have time to get my emotions together there is another family member in my future.

It saddens me to read this Marty but the reality that my two are closing in on that same scenario helps me understand. We're on our third generation of giants, one Newfoundland and one Great Pyrenees and we already know from experience that it’s a slippery slope after ten years. You just have to love them while you’ve got them and cherish the memories when they leave.

I said goodbye to a dog I'd had for 13 yrs from 5 weeks old.
It's like cutting a limb off without anesthetic .

I feel for you Ian.My condolences.

I know how you feel. I had to bury my wolf pal a couple of years ago.
I have a rat terrier we call peanut. I came home from work the day after we got her at the pound and she met me at the door standing on her hind legs wanting to dance. So, dance we did, and from that point on her 'official' name is Ginger Rogers.

As much as our dogs mean to us, we mean much more to them. I just got a video of an old friends kid coming home after a year away from his rather large mutt. You've all seen them. A dog is a large part of our lives, we are everything to them.
