DO NOT RIDE OFF WITH YOUR DISC LOCK STILL ON! I know what happens now! Not happy. Still, could have been worse, could have actually fallen off. Luckily only the caliper carrier destroyed itself.

Ouch! Nope, that doesn't sound like fun. I use a disk lock too, but it has an motion sensitive alarm in it. All I have to do is take the bike off the stand and blam!!! I get blasted by some major decibels.

I never lock mine. My insurance covers it if it is stolen but not if its vandalized. If someone decides to steel it but its locked they push them over. But I have heard of bike thieves just raising up the front wheel and putting it On a furniture dolly and taking it any way. Besides these Americas are not sought after bikes like those crotch rockets or a hardley davison
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

Yup i just bought an alarm for it, i suppose if a good thief really wanted it they could still figure it out, but for the kids and idiot thieves if they sit on it , goes off, move it up, goes off, cut the power lead , goes off (hidden power source) aka "everready" LOL heck even a loud diesel truck will set it off from time to time.....
and i like making it go chirp chirp when i set it.

Wrecker just got back to me. $80.00 for the whole caliper and bracket. Not too bad at all. Was expecting to be seriously frightened as to the cost.

Bike thieves IN NZ Cloudy?? Surely not!!! Was present one morning in NZ when a Rider forgot to unlock and remove the large chain through the rear wheel. Made a mess and lucky he was not injured. With my memory these days I would not tempt the gods by putting any lock through a wheel!!!! Hell the key is in the pouch on the tank bib and has been left there for years if they are that keen!!!!

To be honest I find the twin disc set up to be more than is needed anyway.

The advantage to twin discs is not stopping power but the amount of heat produced. Less force is required on each caliper generating less heat keeping the brakes cool under heavy use. This prevents fade under heavy usage conditions.

Never had that happen before, but something much more clever...I had the bike on the back of my station wagon, on the bike hitch I fabbed. Because I left the bike hooked up and was not leaving till the next morning, I wrapped my tent cover over the bike to keep it dry, wrapping a part of the bungee around the rear wheel. Next morning, as I was pulling out of the parking lot, I noticed a flapping motion behind me. Luckily, it snapped the cheap bungee, but I spent half an hour pulling out viynal tent pieces from out of the back wheel!

They were not by any stretch friends just a bad group that I knew and they were known to have hot h d parts available anytime and if they saw a bike they wanted? They would stop the van get out pick up the bike put it in the van and be gone in a matter of minutes. Now I am all in favor of keeping an honest man honest but if a theif wants something he will get it !!! I figure if I lock the front end and take the key, anything more than that is overkill and probably a waist of money? If I lived someplace like apt or condo complex and had to park it outside on the street or parking lot someplace overnight I am not sure what I would do, I have been known to park in living room and a screen porch or two lol but I suppose there are places where you need to do something to feel like it's secure ? Maybe an alarm system of some kind but to try and lock wheels ? When I traveled cross country I used to put a lock on my drive chain so at least it couldn't be pushed away but after awhile I stopped doing that, it seems that Triumph is not high on the list of thieves like some of the other brands cough cough h d lol oh yeah and your a dick

That is also why I have A: never bought a disk lock B: I never use the steering lock either. I heard too many "old school" bikers talk about themselves trying to show off and forget the locks were on. (+ the steering lock on the BA has never been very good or easy to get in the correct place LOLOL )

If I had a dollar (94 US cents) for every time I have called myself a dick, especially with regards to bike issues, I would be a kajillionairre.
