2007 Speedmaster 74K mi. I have a voltage indicator installed and is working properly.(I've checked multiple times) After the bike warms up, at higher RPMs the volts drop below 12. not always. If I let the throttle off, it comes back up. I think its the reg/rectifier. Is there a good quality aftermarket replacement out there. The dealer wants a lot for it. Any tips or ideas welcome.

Factory unit replacement means removing the trailing arm if I'm not mistaken. A couple of the aftermarket ones i've seen are a bit simpler, cut the wires on yours to remove and install the new one.

It's really not that hard. Biggest thing is to unbolt the r/r from it's spot and let it dangle first. This allows you to pull up on the wiring (pulling the r/r up to towards frame/swing arm/mufflers) for slack to manipulate the plug connecting to the wiring loom connector. There is a stiff wire keeper (maybe for the wire to the starter motor) you need to displace. It is fastened right under the battery tray. It needs to be rotated out of the way to allow the plug end to pass.

On my 2007 I ended up cutting the plug on the old RR and simply rerouting the connector on the new one.
