Been riding my '14 TBA LT through the worst of UK winter......got up yesterday to go with some friends to the London Bike show.......and it died when selecting gear.
Obviously the side stand switch had seized with all that salt we put on the roads here...... but everyone was waiting, engines running, so I took the Switchback....first time I've ridden it since Boxing Day.
Jeez, what a clumsy clunker I now find it after 3000 miles on the TBA.......come April it's going up on E Bay.
Got home and freed the errant switch quickly ...so nice to get back on it again .....

As Ian said in another post all this electic/electronic stuff, sensors, safety switches etc.is just more stuff to go wrong.
It's good when you get the problem fixed quickly.

Yep, was tempted to simply rip the damn switch off altogether....in the words of the late Colin Chapman of Lotus fame

I must admit that after having owned my america for eight years there have been a couple of occasions when I've put the bike in gear only to have the engine cut out, yep the side stand was still down, it's rare that I do it but I have done it, so I'm kind of glad that little switch was there..

It's got WD40 on it...do they do this stuff in USA?
( WD ...' War Dept.'....been around since the D Day landings...messy but usually effective for this sort of thing. I used to simply cover up the brakes each September and spray the whole bike with this awful gunk....rinse it off for March.

What is the worst that happens when to loose the switch? You ride off with your kickstand down? It will just fold up on its own. A redundant system.

Have you ever seen anyone catch the kickstand in a corner? It isn't pretty.

Story about WD-40 I heard was: Stood for: Water Displacement 40th formula.

You are correct. Wd-40 is also more of a cleaner than it is a lubricant. If you're trying to lube that side stand switch you need to use some type of grease as WD-40 will just wear/wash away.

I thought WD-40 was designed to clean the outside of spacecraft or planes.

WD-40® literally stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula. That's the name straight out of the lab book used by the chemist who developed the product back in 1953. The chemist, Norm Larsen, was attempting to concoct a formula to prevent corrosion—a task which is done by displacing water. Norm's persistence paid off when he perfected the formula on his 40th try.

WD40 works OK, but do not count on it for something like prepping a gun for storage or any other long term metal protection. Aero Kroil is a better product all around for its ability to creep into tight spaces and loosen up frozen parts, cutting through crud or displacing water, IMHO. Keep in mind that washing all the existing lubricant or grease out of a bearing, chain or moving part and not replacing it, isn't always a good thing.

Well that kinda explains the stampings on a bunch of Brit Army things, I've collected over the years. RAF tools, assorted pig stickers and such. Almost all of the items I've found are of of excellent quality. Garrington and King Dick tools are my favorites. A lot of people do not know that the Queen has a select endorsement for UK goods and its standards goes way beyond our Good House Keeping Seal of Approval, UL Approved and ISO 9001. So how come there aren't any Modern Triumphs honored as such?

Yes. Stuff stamped with the WD arrow is good quality....if sometimes inelegant.
The Queens endorsement is known as the Royal Warrant and usually means the product is actually supplied to the monarch.
No doubt should she ride a bike it'd be a Triumph.
Personally though,as one who's family backed the wrong side at Culloden, I consider the correct royal family remains the Stuart's....
But surely I digress?

Close, Alan.

Yep Ryk, I'm pretty sure it does.

And speaking of the British Home Guard during WWII...

Ever seen the movie The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) ?

(...I love that movie...TCM shows it every so often)
