You can do it Ian. As hard as it is it's what's best for her. It would be worse for her if she continues to not eat. I have had to do it it 5 times and every time I come out of the vet, crying like a baby. I just take sun glasses. It helped that I had a very caring female vet who understood. Once she called me at home and told me I had done the right thing since she was not on duty when I took Max in when he had last stage stomach cancer. Plus they always sent a sympathy card. Part of loving Kizmitt is letting her go and knowing she had a great life with you and your family loving her.

I am lucky like you, I also have a very caring female vet with an entire staff just as caring. She was fired from my old vets office because she spent too much time with the animals and for stealing because she cut a few nails and didn't charge for it, one was an old couple that had spent all they had to treat their dog there and she did it to help them. My old vet died and an uncaring company took over the practice, her new stall, all but one, came with her from my old vets office. She gave me her home number and has helped me after hours care for Kizmitt. They all say they can tell how much I love Kizmitt.

It's good to have a vet that recognizes your emotional commitment. Tell her what you need and let her guide you. This whole business makes me so very sad...

Weather permitting I plen to spread the blanket out that she has been laying on while I build my shed, she has been hanghing out with me while I do that. I spent my entire vacation outside with her doing that and it was beautiful weather. That was the end of September. She has been hanging out with me this whole time she has been sick as I work on it too, poking her nose in the way as I drive nails. It is going to be hard to finish it without her.
I rambled there, I am going to hold her in my arms on that blanket out in the sun for her final moments. My vet agreed she would be happy to make that accomodation for me.

I should have also said, I was able to do what I wanted. I spread a moving blanket out with a fuzzy one on top of that that she layed on when I was working. It was sunny and just a little breezy and it was warm, it was perfect conditions. We were on top of a small hill with trees and bushes and a nice view and she quietly went to sleep with me and the twins and my mom and the vet and 2 of her staff.Surrounded by those who loved her. The vet staff didn't need to be out there but they wanted to, they are all very nice caring people.

I'm very saddened to hear the news but so happy you have such fond memories to remember her by.

Sympathies.

Windows 10 tried to install itsself on my system a while back and crashed my system, I lost all the older videos of her. All I have are the ones I got the last few weeks.I should also state all my vet charged me was $150 for individual creamation and $65 for the rest including one of those sand paw prints. Last dog I lost just the creamation was $300+.

Reading about Kizmitt, and thinking of all the wonderful dogs in my past, caused me to spend some extra time rubbing canine bellies and scratching floppy ears. As much as it hurts at first you'll soon remember only the best parts. Of course, you already know that.

If your vet has a web site or FB, You should write her a nice letter thanking her and her staff for going above and beyond for you and Kizmitt.

I went back in after and thanked them all again and stressed how much all the support meant to me. I just called my old vets office (where she first cared for Kizmitt years ago) and requested all my records so I can take them up there. I will make an appointment for my other 2 dogs as soon as I have the records. My mom wrote a letter too. I will have to see what she has for an online presence. I really can not say enough good about them and am going to reccomend her to anyone who will listen.

My mom says God takes dogs early becauise they got it right and we have to stay here to practice. A customer told me that dogs are not here our whole lives but make our lives whole.

When you said two words, "Shes gone", made me cry. So permanent, so final. They bring us so much joy then are taken away so early.

I just reread this thread and it made me cry, the way she went and the stories that were posted and all you fine people who cared enough to comment and try and ease my pain. I have tears in my eyes now. Thank you all for your kind words. I tried to post a couple pictures of her but Photobucket is not cooperating. I will when it is working right again. I was lucky to have had Kizmitt and am lucky to have an online family here to vent my pain and recieve comfort.

It's a hard thing to do but at least you were man enough to insure she didn't suffer. That's something you can hang your hat on.

Holding them in your arms and talking to them as they pass on is how a dog should go. You are their everything, they should feel your love as they slip away. I'm glad you were there for her at the end Ian. We should all hope our loved ones are there for us at the end.

I knelt along side her petting her telling her "Daddy loves you." the whole time until she was gone. I can assure you that I did love her every bit as much as she loved me too, maybe even more.

Sorry to hear the news, I've been away for awhile. My deepest sympathies for your loss and the world, as dogs are better than people.
