When riding, I find I have a tendency to slouch.
What do you guys (or gals) do? When I do, I mentally tell myself to get my back straight, but it only lasts for a few minutes, then I find myself slouching again.
On longer rides, it makes my back ache, and my shoulder blades tense.
Any suggestions? (I was contemplating the switch to a T100 for a different riding position)

Fast Eddy sells a good quality backrest that mounts to the top of the rear shocks.

I have 4 1/2" rise and 1 1/2" pull back HD risers with BA bars on my SM but still tend to slouch.

if riding solo I wear a back align to keep me from slouching. Riding 2 up, slouching is not a problem.

I'm always 2-up.
I still slouch.... and get pain in my shoulder blades after a while. Maybe because I'm 5'7"...
I could have a look at FastEddy's backrest (sorry but it doesn't look the part, even though I'm sure it does the job).
I need a floating disk from him anyway, I may add the backrest, especially since it looks like a very easy on/off item for the bike.
I'm not sure about the back rest though. Maybe... But I still have this nagging idea about a T100.... Need to demo one with the wife behind first....

You need to bring your bars back, otherwise you almost need to slouch to ride. The K. belt, backrest, and the bars further back all goes to correct the problem. As long as I can push my back into a backrest and reach the bars comfortably, my L-2&3 ruptured discs just feel (like sh!t) normal, without that, I'm in total misery and I just want to go home and eat Narco pain meds. I do agree the standard bike position with your feet under you, may help you without all the mods. I'm sure you will get it sorted, pain is a very strong incentive.

I want to add that i also in addition to the above,I raised the rear part of the corbin saddle by adding rubber disks under the rear pads that sit on the fender, which forced my lean a little more forward, i also bought a set of the front peg re-location brackets from a member in here which brings the pegs back 2" and down 1" these three items make me sit much more upright with my feet closer to being under me as apposed to in front of me, i am 5ft 8" with a 30" [ant leg legnth and this set up is perfect. Took a few years to get there though.

http://www.backaline.com/index.htmlI used a generic brand of the above before I went with a Corbin backrest and it really made a difference. If I were to take a long trip, I'd order one myself - even with the Corbin.

I was hesitant adding risers and such. Doesn't it alter steering? The long America bars already feel so far from the front wheel...

I put taller risers on my bike, Jeff and never looked back. I'm about the same height as you and it made a huge difference to my comfort.

you will not be bothered by any steering effects, this is how mine ended up, more than a few people in here have set it up this way, i am using america cables and they are fine.

I'm starting to have neck and shoulder pain since joining the ranks of AARP. What's a good source for risers that also pull back for an 06 America that wont require cable change?

I wish my wife was still alive, she was a pain in the ass sometimes but that I could tolerate. All my pain is up in the shoulder and neck area, arm is tingling constantly also.

We keep the best memories, and forget the bad.
Ok, I'm thinking risers like on the speedmaster, but will that affect the cables? Already my throttle cable is acting up when I steer all the way to the left, revs up the engine.

It might affect your cables, but you can reroute them to the right of the yoke for a bit more play.

Its interesting how different people are affected by the same seats. I have back problems from slipping a disc many years ago and now have several fussed disc's. Things are mostly all good as I've learn't several small things to do for myself when I feel I might have over done it. Having said that I find that if I do have a sore back, nothing (and I mean nothing) helps my back like a ride on my Bike the longer the better. My set up is stock on the Speedmaster and find the lean forward to the bars super comfortable, My back stays nice and straight all day. I'm 5'10". I would'nt change my set up at all. As I say just find it interesting.

Didn't anybody's grade school teacher give them a slap upside the head for slouching in their chairs?

I find I slouch as well, but that may just be poor posture. Last year I started getting a little pain between the shoulder blades. I've never had lower back issues due to the speedmaster forward lean. I feel it has helped me keep my back straight as well. I am trying bringing the bars up and back and inch. On one longer ride I noticed the same pain. I may go back to the stock (or relatively close due to custom bars) position. I do have a bikers friend type hard round bag for overnight trips that doubles as a back rest. I'm 5' 11'' but only have a 31'' inseam. I think my long body and short legs work well with a little forward lean.

+1 for the corbin.I bought the seat alone. But the seat alone fixed my tailbone problem it didn't completely fix the slouching/lower back pain.I succumbed and bought the back rest and it's so good. Now no tail bone or back pain. Although I have the America. It's different with the Speedmaster

Riding with solo seat, floor boards and Rivco risers on the Speedmaster sometimes upper back gets tired from the problem of slouching. The extra spacer under the rear mount sounds like a good suggestion prior to springing for an expensive albeit superior seat. The backrest might be the next step.

Yes, messed up that reply placement I did...
