I've decided to try and sell myself on eBay. Let me explain first before people start jumping to conclusions. I thought i may be able to make some money by teaching/training people that have a Lathe or Milling Machine at home and need some ONE to ONE instruction from a Machinist that has 43 yrs of experience. Kind of like a traveling instructor for the home hobbyist type. I advertised myself on eBay as "RENT a MACHINIST" for $80/day. The auction is under the Personal Development section.

I just thought that someone may want to learn some tricks of the trade from a "Master Machinist". Des.

If you were closer I would take you up on it. I do have an Atlas lathe with just about any attachment you can imagine. I can use it but I am limited.

I have a 6339 model it has the clutch drive and a 1-1/2 HP motor on it.it's a 12x36 so its only a little toy thing but it does a nice job. I also have a 3HP Lagun FTV-1 mill with a 9x42 table.

I have a smaller mill. I grew up with a machine shop in our barn. We built liquid ox trailers in there among other things. Had a small lathe like I have (flat leather belt drive and had to actually remove and replace the back gears like mine) and we also had one with about a 12' table and the chuck was about 3' in dia. We had a shaper and many other tools I won't go into. I learned quite a bit but am not a machinist.

Why not make some DVD's of some basic procedures or answer FAQs(if you follow machinist forms) and if they sell, start building a library of more involved operations.

Dude, I feel ya.

But think about it. There IS a market for your stuff, just NOT one like the new release electronics!

My Fuel Filters run continuously on ebay (always FREE listing fee), but I only average one sell every month or so.

STILL, I've sold thirty-five so far, grossing $3,400 dollars, and will continue (hopefully) to do so.

Patience my good fellow, patience. Once the product is made, it shouldn't hurt sitting on the shelve a little while, unless it's your primary source of income.

And you may see me tonight With an illegal smile J. Prine

Two Wheel n, the DVD idea sounds good but i'm sure that simple instructions are already out on the market. I don't follow machinist forums yet but will take a look and see if that will work out. When you go from the basic principles of machining to Screw cutting, form tooling then lot of issues arise from the condition of the machine tool itself. You can do the same operation on two different machines and depending of the condition of them, one part will be easy to machine and the other part will need different speeds/feeds/depth of cut due to lack of rigidity.

There's your bases for Vol.1,Desmond, "Know Your Machine".
If you describe things in basic, easy to understand language the hows and whys(ways )of doing things and "testing" their machine(s) for accuracy .
Like Earl said, "Patience my good fellow, patience. Once the product is made, it shouldn't hurt sitting on the shelve a little while, unless it's your primary source of income."
Who knows you might get a "group(ie)" following that hunger for your next DVD!
