Would it be worth it?

Thanks!

Would a Garden Gate badge hide the boo-boo?

I don't think so. It appears to really be on top close to the bung.

Bring it to a "Dent Wizard" and see what they think.

I'm considering purchasing it. I just didn't want to waste my money. I would be ordering it, so I do not have it in hand.
I've never had any body work done, so I'm not sure where the line between "not a big deal" and "don't waste your time" is.

I don't think Dent Wizard would be able to do anything with that. Should be able to be fixed and repainted. The question is how much is the person asking for it ? And would you be doing the work yourself or paying some one to do it ?

$100.00 is what is being asked.
I would be having someone else do the work. I'm looking to repaint the whole bike, so the paint is not the worry.

OK, I see the damage now, radiator shops have the rubber bungs to run as much air pressure available in to the tank, then try to shock the dent out with a dead blow. TBS tank?

I had a tank repaired with air pressure. Worked like a charm.

Yes, it is a TBS tank. I really like the way those bikes look, and then seeing it on Piper's bike, made me start looking around.

For the bodywork ? I'd jump on that, since you're gonna re-paint anyway. A tank on Ebay's gonna be 200.00 plus and 'probly got some ding.

How am I gonna hide that from the wife?

Brent. It's not a plug-and play fit. You have to build new brackets underneath to be able to secure it to the frame. You also have to weld in a piece of pipe at the end closest to the seat. The little "lip" at the back is actually part of the tank itself. With the pipe yo can secure the tank with a bolt just like your original tank. Haven't done this yet myself, since it's still riding season, but soon that white stuff will cover my country and then it's time for (hopefully) improvements in time for spring ;-)

Thanks Bengt, I have no idea what I'm getting into. I'll take any advice you want to throw at me. It's nice to have something I can work out and not be stuck not being able to ride.
We do not get too much snow here, just rain and ice. I'll work on it over the winter and if it happens before next season, great, if not, that's okay. I think this will be a fun project.

I have the same dilema on a spare tank I got (from a member here for dirt cheap) that has 2 fairly moderate dings on the LH side. One in front of the where the badge fits and one just above the front of the badge about half way up to where the bung in located. I plan to employ a bit of direct heat (MAP gas torch) for about 2 inches round each dent then instantly apply some dry ice.....may take several trys but I think it'll work out pretty well.....

I'll let you knw how it turns out & plan to post pics here too....

Ya might give it a try....but I'd take all the old paint off first too.....

I repaired a tank once with air pressure and it held more gas when I was done - don't wanna use too much pressure.
