I think my 2009 America speedometer is about 10% off. At 50 MPH indicated, I think my actual speed is more like 45. Couple of questions: Is this typical of an America, and is the margin of error (10%) usually consistent at all speeds?

With a 130/70 front tire my 07 SM indicates approx. 5% fast.

My 120/90-tire almost nailed it!

The 130/90-17 I have on a stock TBS rim registers 59 at 60 MPH actual speed.

My 03 is about 10% too fast too. The larger whitewall helped it down to about 6% according to the little "slow your butt down" reminder radars on the sides of the road.

They ALL do that.
Nope! Before I changed to the slightly larger front tire, my speedo and milemeter was spot on! Checked it twice with cop radar and many times with the mile markers on the roadside.

Mine seems to be good under about 65mph and then gets off farther and farther over 65 mph. As far as the odometer, well, my buddy John (he has a bonneville) and I were off by about 13 miles after our trip to Keith's last year. We rode together the whole way. I don't know who's was more accurate.

It's not a linear function so a speedometer that's off at all will be off by a greater degree at higher speeds. Ours tend to read slightly faster than we're actually going until they go crazy, and most do, then they say you're doing 120 MPH as you're pulling out of your driveway... which, sometimes, I may be.

Cinnamon Girl's speedometer reads 5 mph while she is on the sidestand. Then she'll read 15mph too fast when rolling. However, her odometer is spot on. Maybe when she rolls through 100000 I'll change out her speedo for an oem bought about eight years ago...

I've always know that they lacked a bit of accuracy so yesterday I did a data run for my own sake. I hooked up my GPS and ran with the Guage Display. It was pretty accurate up to 50mph for the most part, then started to read 5 mph high. 50 read 55 60-65 70-75 80-86 90-97
Hope this helps

I just got my speedometer back from Foreign Speedo in San Diego. I took it out for a test. I compared it to the GPS I've been using as a speedo. Every five mph from 25 to 80 mph it was within 1% the whole way. They reset the odometer and fixed the speedo for $85 not counting shipping.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
