Not sure what the heck but if i get caught in a down pour with allot of misting from cars ahead and such the bike will die. When it goes its like its running out of fuel then nothing. Bike can sit for a bit then fire up again run for a while then die. Never happens when conditions are dry so something is getting wet somewhere and killin my bike. Any idea's where a guy should look? Tanks. ONly thing i have added electric wise is an alarm that sits under the seat, i wonderd if this was getting wet from the back tire (freak kit) and maybe has a cut off or something? not sure.

HT wire= HOT wires, live, with power, ie.. not Ground or signal.

May also be vent tube getting blockage, if so cut it a 45° toward the rear.

Mike I pulled the following quote from a similar thread when I encountered a flashflood and my bike was Under Water

Quote:

Quote:

The only thing that gets me is had it running fine and was traveling down the interstate doing fine about 70mph then started acting like it was out of gas.

Classic tank vent hose blockage reaction. I'll bet the vent hose was under water and the crud that was in it melted and blocked the tip. Loosen the tank filler cap and see what she does...then after you clean the hose you might as well cut the vent hose at a 45° angle (away from the front) so it doesn't happen again. Doubt the tank is contaminated but you'll know when you drain the float bowls by the amount of water you find (or not).

Does it matter how long that hose is? (under the bike) or can a guy cut it on an angle but higher up?

I'm not an expert but physically I don't see why it would hurt to shorten it up a little, its only a vent.

was asking about wires coz in my stupidity few years back I had (un)famous Nology wires and had always problems with bike running in wet conditions, put back stockers was better... now have some NGK racing wires and never had problems.last weeek was riding in heavy rain I mean HEAVY!!!! and bike was running like dream (I had water in my boots,3 pairs of gloves wet, water somehow got under jacket and was soaking wet)

i am running the noligy wires but had the same issue a while back with the OEM ones, thought i had a cracked coil and may have so replaced those as well, this time it was different same result but symtoms were different, we did have the tank and stuff apart this weekend so maybe the hose is pinched and it took a bit to build pressure, tank was almost empty so had some room maybe not sure.

Whoa, ease up there Obi Won. You may be on to sump'n, never disagreed with you that it may be electrical. I was just thinking simple things first and explain'n HT wires. BTW what up with taking the "o" outta that little 3 letter word, I thought y'all usually like to add extra unneeded vowels to words.

if you running nology wires try in dry condition spray some water under tank(use this thing for flowers spraying if you can) years ago my mechanic done this test and we had spark everywhere but not on the plug tip...stock wires are not 100% watertight on caps .........

Mike, I can well imagine the CDI giving you grief due to moisture. Hairline cracks can and do develop in the area where it is sealed. I had rain problems with cutting out and/or missing until I smeared caulking all over that area AND greased the contacts. Since then... not one miss, even in the rain,

Good idea Keith thanks, i will do that tonight. Prettymuch went through the whole bike, everything got greased at least everything i could get too, vent was not pinched but cut the bottom on an angle anyways and made it a bit shorter, it was pretty low given i lowered the rear end etc. Have brand new coils and wires and they seem pretty snug so don't think water is getting in there.

I thought HT meant "High Tensile wire", or High Tension wire", When relating to spark plug wires.

Don't know if you got is solved. I was in a rain storm coming up over a pass in CO..bike died at the top of the pass and I coasted down to down the mountain...at the bottom I pulled the small black wires that were connected to the coils..they were full of water...I let them dry out and the bike fired up and I rode it the rest of the way to CA with no problems...

I had that happen very recently and I had water in my airbox and the filter was saturated. I have removed the airbox baffle on top of the airbox a while back so I don't know if it got in there or through a vent hose

Last weekend, I went on a 2100 km cruse. Hit rain several times and had the same condition especially with all the misting kicked up by the transports. It wasn't electrical though. Every time the bike felt like it was running lean, I would crack the fill cap to the tank open and the problem would disappear. My gas mileage went way up also.

One of these days, I'm gonna relocate that fuel tank vent hose.

BTW, if you do trim the tank vent, make sure you don't mess with the float bowl vent hose close to it. You don't want that hose to be subject to air flow that could cause a vacuum, like I did last summer.
