I love a long ride... one that extends from fill up to fill up. I love the way it puts me in the 'zone' giving me an almost otherworldly experience... a zen sort of thing. And so come Friday I'll point my trusty Trumpet westward on a full day's ride, to the where ocean meets land in a place called Vancouver. There I'll hook up with son and grand daughters before skipping across the Georgia Straight to Vancouver Island to see my 92 year young mother. The weather looks promising, while the wonders of family awaits me in the wake of what promises to be a glorious ride. Now what, I say WHAT gets better than that?
Live to love, love to live.

I've done the ride to Vancouver, from your house and it is very nice, well until I got into Vancouver at rush hour. I wish I had gone up through Kelowna as opposed to the Trans-Canada Hwy, which is still beautiful, as you know. I think the GPS said it was only a 15 minute difference, but heck I'm saying this to the guy that show's me around. ha. Have a great trip.

I need a good long ride myself.
One I mean not to return from.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

That's the route FJ, myself and the rider known simply as "Z" took a few years back Brent. Involved godawful delivery pizza in a Kelowna motel, a trucker dispatching a side swiped deer and a ferry crossing. Celt got us started, then pulled a U-ey back to Vancouver. A great route for sure

Ain't that amazing?
Meanwhile the 400 mile ride is postponed 'til Saturday. The weather forecast calls for rain on the far end of the journey so Grandpa may just be a little waterlogged when he arrives. I'll have a couple of days with my son and his daughters then off to see my dear ol' Mom over on the Island. There I will settle in for a few days of visiting interspersed with inspirational ocean side rides. Then, back to the mainland to spend a couple more days with the grandkids followed by a day long ride home. I must have done something right in this life to deserve such greatness!! So cool!!!

Damn weather...Have a good trip. Seeing how you are in Canada already no point in suggesting the bike on Ferry to Victoria. I'm not sure how motorcycle friendly the island is but I sure liked the music clubs over there.

The Island is extremely motorcycle friendly. As for the ferry, motorcycles are first on and first off and we always get on no matter how much overflow there is for the sailing. AND rates are waaaaay cheaper than a car!
So Jerry... you've spent some time on Vancouver Island. Glad you had a good time while visiting good ol'' Supernatural BC!

Well, I made it to my Son's place after an 8 hour ride. It was cold up in the many passes i rode through, and I hit a little rain but other than being a bit saddle sore I'm no worse for wear. It was a great ride leaving me safe, sound and dry. Now onto watching my wonderful 4 yo granddaughter do ballet in the morn. Ahhh, life is full of wonder!!

Still out here fulfilling my mission. Had a great ride to the coast (albeit rather cold). Now in the Island with my 92 year old Mom after seeing my son and his family in Vancouver. What a blast! The weather seems to have stabilized with full on sunny days which is great for my 1/2 hour commute from where I's staying to my Mom's residence. In short, I am happy visiting family and riding my bike.

Yeah, those friggin' bridges. Funny you mention that... On the way out here and as I rode over the bridge that took me down last year I took extra special caution even though the road was dry. Kinda spooked am I over that stretch of road!

I am back from my trip. For some reason the 400 mile trip home hurt my poor ol' 61 yo body but I enjoyed it, nevertheless. After visiting family in the form of 4 generations from Great Grandmother (GG) to Grandchild it was nothing short of amazing. GG is doing very well for a 92 year old. We all are!! So my "Good long ride" was fantastic. I came home unscathed and the bike performed flawlessly. Life is good!!!

Yep Steve, I suppose the only time THAT could be a bad mix, would be if ya happen to be headed to a Manson Family reunion on somethin' like THIS...

(...glad ya had a great trip, Keith!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
