Anyone running that finned stator cover from SpeedMerchant on a Speedie or America? I notice that on the description on their website and New Bonneville they don't list it for either, just bonneville, scramblers, thruxton. Any clearance problems with peg brake bracket?

I just received this e-mail from Speed Merchant...

Steve,
About a year and a half ago you emailed me at a short lived and now defunct company called jomoracing regarding
finned covers for Triumph Americas and Speedmasters.
I am happy to report that we have undergone many changes, but preservered and have reformed under a new banner....The Speed Merchant you can check us out here http://www.thespeedmerchant.net/
and, yes our finned covers will fit the Triumph America and Speedmaster models!
Thank you for your support!

I would love one for each of my side covers but not for that kind of scratch.

I emailed these folks the other day, inquiring if the mating/gasket surface was milled flat or just as cast. I don't want to pay big $$$ just to have a leaker. No response as yet. Also their picture of the unpolished ones, looked to have a few surface flaws (pits), nothing a 1/4 teaspoon of bondo wouldn't fix, but for the asking price, should you have to? Casting tech, being what it is today, practically flawless is not to much to ask.

Just got a response from Speedmerchants:
Ryk,

Thanks for your inquirey!
We tumble all of our castings after they are "cleaned up" by hand and actually come out quite clean and require only a polishing compound to smooth them out, no filler needed!
We do have a polished cover available, if that is what you are after. But we have sold many "raw" covers and have received many compliments in the casting quality. We use A356 aluminum some of the finest material available. Many sand cast products are poured with hodgepodge left over alloys and come out much rougher.Through much trial and error, we settled on the more expensive, but a much better quality material.
All of our covers are machined with a keen eye for quality control. We have never had a leak, nor have ever had one reported to us. The main reason we have chosen to manufacture all of our products 100% in the USA, in fact in our own city.
I hope I have answered your questions, and hope to see our cover on your Speedmaster as well!!

Thanks for your support!

I know my "reputation" around here is that I have some kinda "fin fetish" , but I have to say I agree with Charles here.

Ya see, while I think fins look great around the combustion area of a motorcycle's engine, I've never been all that much into 'em bein' around the bottom cases of these engines. It's just a little too much for my tastes.

(...but yeah, to each his own I guess)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I like the way they look, but now I'm wondering if they will rub the inside of my right ankle wrong. Guess I'll find out.

Of course, you mean the leather on your boot covering your ankle, right?
