We now know it's all bunk. The proof is that it took until January 12 this year for a non-scientist from the northern hemisphere to declare that the temperature outside means there can't be global warming. The last 5-6 years that thread started in December didn't it?

Our sun is a yellow dwarf. All yellow dwarf stars become red giants. So as our sun ages it grows hmmm. The red giant then collapses on itself making a white dwarf.
Whoah! talk about climate change!
Today we have a high of 170F but a bit cooler on Wednesday.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Just this morning as I was thinking about yesterdays record high of 64º, I wondered how come all the conspiracy theorists hadn't chimed in yet on the forum. Typical, nobody really complains when it's warm in January but if we had 4" of snow and 20º right now people would be bitching saying "Where's the global warming, huh?!?!?!" Every damn winter...

I love the wonderful weather we are having this winter. Its supposed to be in the 70s tomorrow.
Global warming or not I don't care the gooberment can't do a thing about it any way. If the had 10 billion dollars to work on it 5 billion would be divided up between them. Two billion would go to social programs and the rest would go to a committee who would divide up 2.5 billion amoungst themselves. Rest would be given to scientists through grants to study environment and make a report at the end of the year.

Oh, by the way 1 outta 4 "tax returns" will be audited this year. Wasn't the head of the IRS $300,000.00 in the rears on his taxes.

Frankly, kind of wish we WOULD get a bit more (like a couple feet) snow and some bitter cold temps. Not that I'm a cold-freak, but lets face it, the system needs it. Got pine beetles, mosquito larvae and other such pests to freeze to death, and well, Colorado is always in need of a little extra moisture (well, just enough to replenish the Ogalalla Aquifer and the mountain lakes, but not enough for humidity, yes I'm picky and greedy!!)

Thats what I was told by my tax preparer. She had to go to a workshop about it with her whole company . She said an IRS rep. told them in the meeting. I just passed it along.

Ok so it wasn't 300,000.00, but now that I have your attention, here are the facts.
Geithner had not paid $35,000 in self-employment taxes for the years 2001–2004. The International Monetary Fund (IMF), an international agency and his employer during the time in question, did not withhold Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax, but instead reimbursed the usual employer responsibility of 50% of these taxes to employees who were subject to the taxes. Geithner had received the reimbursements and paid the amounts received to the government, but had not paid the other 50% which would normally have been withheld from his pay. This failure to pay was noted during a 2006 audit by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), in which Geithner was assessed additional taxes of $14,847 for the 2003 and 2004 tax years. The statute of limitations had expired for 2001 and 2002, and Geithner did not file amended returns or pay the additional amounts due for those years until after Obama expressed his intent to nominate Geithner to be Secretary of the Treasury. He also deducted the cost of his children's sleep-away camp as a dependent care expense, when only expenses for day care are eligible for the deduction. Geithner subsequently paid the IRS the additional taxes owed, and was charged $15,000 interest, but was not fined for late payment.
In a statement to the Senate Finance Committee, Geithner called the tax issues "careless", "avoidable" and "unintentional" errors, and he said he wanted to "apologize to the committee for putting you in the position of having to spend so much time on these issues". Geithner testified that he used TurboTax to prepare his 2001 return, but that the tax errors were his own responsibility. The Obama campaign stated that Geithner was advised by his accountant that he did not owe any taxes beyond those assessed by the IRS following the 2006 audit. Geithner said at the hearing that he had always believed he was an employee, not a self-employed contractor, while serving at the IMF.
So, if you find yourself in error you can just apologise, and all will be well.

Actually, the Sec. of Treasury ( he's a cabinet member, not an IRS employee )is small potatoes. I don't think gov employees should be treated any differently than those in the private sector, but FYI..

I didn't originally high jack this thread. And yes "FYI". I have no ax to grind. Income taxes in arrears is a common problem, equally in the private and public sectors. That's why the IRS accepts "offers of compromises", cents on the dollar.

Hardly confrontational John (well the facts at least). I would first state that if this is true, the the IRS needs to do as good of a job with the govt employees as with the public. HOWEVER, I would also like to see stats for delinquent private sector Americans who are delinquent on taxes to get a better feel for how out of line (or not) that info is.
As for the staggering salary of the White House, I would have to question the need for 457 staffers, although as the article itself mentions, this is only 7 more than the previous Administration. Further, after looking at the original data, there are 140ish of the 457 who are actually making 6 figures, and the highest is $170,000. The remainder are under six figures and a large number are down around the $40-50,000 range, hardly 1%'ers. Further, the average salary has increased from $63,000 in 2003, to $81,000 in 2011. Further, assuming no promotions, that increase is in line with an average cost of living increase of 3%. And, staff size has increased a total of 20 since 2003, all of that being spread pretty evenly over that 8 year time frame (from 433 in 2003, to 442 in 2007, to 453 in 2011, so about 9-10 every 4 years. As said, I can't imagine having that many staff, and the White House would be wise to cut staff to help reduce operational costs, but then again, with the number of dignitaries, citizens, events, etc... that go on there, and the obligations of the White House who am I to say how many they do or don't. Apparently it required that many 10 years ago, and I would not be suprised to find that even 20 years ago, but didn't see any data prior to 2003.

How come, every year, they take more out of my check,
every week, than I end up oweing them for the year,
and I hafta file, and wait, to get my money back,
that they've had the use of all year?
