RAT mods are a bunch of keyboard tough guys, who need to get a grip and a life. They make our mods look kind and sweet(even with the hammer of smiting).

I was officially banned from the rat site this morning, locked horns with the mod. (in private), I had some questions about his actions and was very polite to him about the whole deal. His responses were a combination of child like & rude. That will teach me to hang out in the wrong neighborhood. Thanks Friar and all for this site, my first stop when I sit at the puter desk.

Funny I had a bit of a run in on the Thunderbird 1600 site for not having a Thunderbird and for advertising the Dent meet. Even though on the weekend I think 9 birds turned up including my own. I was banned and do I miss it NO.
Some mods just need to chill out a bit, we have one thing in common whichever "TRIUMPH" site you go on to and that is the bikes you ride... For those pondering yes still have the America, must get round to rebuilding it.... The Mrs still has the Bonneville as well...

It is a great bunch here. Smart, yet warmly twisted. Hardly anybody agrees with much I say and they still haven't banned me yet. I occasionally check out RAT for a specific piece of information or an item I'm looking for but I'm not engaged enough to get banned or I most surely would have been by now.

The guys on RAT acted like dicks to me years ago, I was new there, left in a hurry and never looked back.

I still have an account there. Not Friarjohn--that account got banned years ago (although the name is not that different--if they wanted to find me it would be easy). The little punkass moderator in the cruiser forum deleted my posts, altered my profile AND my signature to remove references to BA.com, without warning or explanation*. The profile edit irked me much more than the post deletion. I got into it with Shawn, one of the founders (not owner--he sold out long ago), and he halfheartedly apologized but not really and didn't change anything. 'This is the way it is.' At least he didn't try and blame it on the parent company.
Ever since, I've said, "If you don't like how we moderate things around here, go to that site and see how they do it." Honestly, the people who frequent the twins cruiser forum must just not be looking around for anything else. Our people and content absolutely crush them.
*Our moderators don't have the power to alter member's profiles. FYI.

I can't comment on the other Triumph sites, as I haven't visited them much since about 2005 or so. I wish them well, as they all serve a purpose. I like to think ba.com has stayed true to the original intent layed out by Robert Wade way back when . Folks looking for information find it. People sell parts, trade parts and often as not just plain give away parts to strangers. There's a bunch of members who've been around here for years and if we're doing things right, folks new to the world of ba.com are made to feel welcome. Although a virtual internet meeting place, rallys are organized and many lasting friendships have been made as a result. I know I've made friends from across North America. The same is true in Europe & the Down Under lands When ba.com needed funds to stay online, a bunch of people stepped up with their chequebooks, paypal etc. because they saw value here. Lives change, so when leadership evolved members got tapped to help with administration & moderator duties. I'd take a shot at Friar, but he knows where I live and where the house key is stashed. Besides, he's helped me more than I deserve. The so called heavy hand of moderation sometimes experienced elsewhere is rarely needed. The AUP policy is simple and common sense. Members self-police potentially offending behaviour, I haven't had to look for the nuclear button for 15-20 years now. More times than we'll ever know, I believe members self police their own entries before hitting the submit tab. Sometimes I try to bait my old friend (who I haven't met yet) Dwight, just so he doesn't get to feeling lonely in Arizona. Happy New Year folks jh

To me, this site has a core group of members that care about motorcycling, helping each other and who enjoy the whole motorcycling experience. There are many posts that I read, follow, and don't comment. I find myself truly interested in the topic, concern for the person or the outcome the project or challenge. I was very interested to hear how Friar's new Rocket is working out for I admire those bikes along with the Thunderbird and someday will own one of them. This does not mean I will give of my BA, I am just looking to expand and around here that is welcomed. Not so much on some of the other sites. Lastly, I truly appreciate the time and effort the Moderators take from their days to keep the site running as smooth as it does. Face it, this is a great place to hang out, especially in January when you live in CT.

I tried the RAT site what a boring site... Full of snobs. At least here you can like what ever bike you want, and be into non manufacturers mods.

Also they throw links into your post. If you use the word fit its automatically a link to scion. "refraining from cursin".

I hate that shi... stuff, mixing content with advertising at that level. If and when banner ads were to reappear here, they would only be in that location. And if they do show up, feel free to block or hide them. Right now the site is financially sound, so there isn't a need. There isn't a need for donations, either. People have been very generous.

This site is great not just because we ride a superior bike ( ) but because the folks here love motorcycles....My first love are the old tigers & bonnies and equally my new hinckley bonnie-a and sprint....but you can bring up an old KZ or suzi here or rocket III or new thunderbird and people will appreciate it for what it is.....a fun machine...I remimber when the kid in fayettiville, ar. started the rat site, the shop there was fun ( i thought) and every one including the ups guy would stop by at lunch, watch motorcycle racing reruns in the lounge and talk bikes,,,,primarily Triumphs, but .... it is sad that over the years the old rat site degenerated to what it is today.....I do not remimber the last time i visited it, but then the kid that started it lost control of it (or something) a decade ago....oh well, viva bonnie-a .com and to all a tip toe through the tulips or what ever tiny tim said in that movie...

Thats what they did to my very first post there I only ever posted there one other time. I was careful not to use a word that could be made into a link. When I saw it I edited the word fit to work so it wouldn't be a link in my greeting post.

So true. This website brings people together, and that to me is Number-1 on the long list of great things about BA.com.

We're gonna have to rectify that situation very soon, John!
(...and no, I wasn't talkin' about that whole "bait" thing here...I was talkin' about that "who I haven't met yet" thing of course, ol' buddy!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

This was the first forum I joined, so I made a lot of mistakes regarding etiquette and things (still do), but people here are mature enough to handle that. The only times I've been to that other site has been by following a link from here, and I found that the post I've just read that has totally confused me as it was unrelated to the topic, has turned out to be an advert Also, it doesn't feel as friendly and inclusive as here. I am a member of one other forum (this one),which is like a baby sister site to this one, but with a more UK bias, but most of the members there are members here
