Jim, Rhonda, Anna Grace Sheppard and the whole clan, Lynn and I send our sincere condolences. Just last night we where talking of Larry. How Lynn thought of him as one of those folks who you might have known before. Easy, opinionated, and best of all: kind. What an outlook on life. Larry never said ride it like you stole it, but he just did! All his farkels. All the gifts. His and Kathy’s time spent preparing for the numerous rally feast. These acts of kindness will always be with us. This morning the news reached me. I went to the bedroom laid next to Lynn and cried. Only now, almost 8 hours later, can words rise above the anguish of learning of Larry’s passing. Larry was a man of few pretenses; a unique, lovable Larry. Larry with a darling wife and a handsome family. A man who had a sixth sense about him. Rest in peace my friend. Continue to shelter those you love as you did on that fateful day. As Jim stated, “I was always ahead of him when we rode together. There was a comfort to me to be able to look in my mirror and see him back there. As we made our way south on Hwy 9, he suddenly shot past me on my left side. There was no reason for this.” I see a reason for his taking point that day. Larry was old school. Was of a generation when a man’s word was gold. He wouldn’t put up with foolishness. In his own way he was an innocent man. Full of spit and gravel, full of love. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." ~ Unknown “For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?” ~ Kahlil Gibran Out of focus a bit but I can’t help but think of Larry smiling! My condolences.
While I never met Larry, going by the words written by the people who have met him, the world is a sadder place for his passing

Words cannot express the gratitude, appreciation and love I've felt from all of you in response to the posting of my Dads death. It's made the last 24 hours easier to cope with.
We've made arrangements for a Memorial Service, and I've started a new thread with that information.
So many of you have called, emailed and sent personal messages, I just cannot respond to them all. They all mean so much to all of us. Thank you just isn't enough..

Looking back, I've only spent a handful of days with Larry over the span of the last 7 or 8 years yet his passing has affected me deeply.
To me he was always quick with a smile and a friendly word but the one memory that will be always front and centre for me will be Larry riding in front of me.
One of many beautiful, tight, twisty Georgia mountain roads. Trees growing in close, their leaves creating spotted patterns along the road from the bright sun above, offset by the cool snap in the air.
As large brown UPS trucks pass us going up the mountain a cold sweat rolls down my back, I fight to keep up. In front of me rides Larry. Riding, relaxed looking like he might be falling asleep.
Larry is one of the people that taught me by example how to ride and for that I will always be grateful. Thank you Larry, I hope I may be able to ride with you again one day and to see what your latest "last bike" is.

I am so saddened to hear of your dad's passing. I never had the chance to meet him in person but it's funny how a person still feels a connection and a sense of knowing somebody because of the family spirit that is shown here. My thoughts will be with you as they have been.

He was a good man & will be missed by many.
I remember my first GA rally like it was yesterday. We had all gathered up @ Danny's & Larry came pulling in wearing the "suit". I thought to myself we are going to be waiting for this old dude to catch up with us all day long boy was I wrong!
we should do this every weekend!

i've been avoiding logging on to our site since i got the news from yota -- for logging on meant that i would be ready to click the keys into place -- to create the words that have been swarming around my head and heart for the last two days. now that i'm here i find that i am not ready.
i will say that Larry and Kathy made my first GA rally possible. they opened their home, gave me a Speedmaster to ride, and in essence brought my BA family to life -- like the pages of a life-sized pop-up book.
for all of this, all i can muster right now is thank you and Namastè(to which Larry would certainly roll his eyes and grumble)
you are all in my heart, in my thoughts, and i will always hold you high.

I think part of a man's measure is the mark he leaves. Judging by the responses contained above, Larry Sheppard left a very large mark.
Peace and understanding to all of his family and friends.

Even though I never got a chance to really get to know Larry, but only meet him briefly, it warms my heart to see how many people he touched, just on this website alone! My heartfelt condolences on your loss Jim, to you and your entire family.

I just do not know what to say. Larry was one of the finest, most honest souls I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I have just now learned of his passing and I am just sick about it. I hope his family are doing alright and I am glad he went out doing what he loved. I am sure where ever he is, he has his knees in the breeze and has found someone to bum a smoke from. Godspeed Brother.
