Hey! What's with all the Semantics here, people???!!! This thread was supposed to be about Ford trucks and Rednecks!!! (...I sure wish "YOU" people who frequent the Lounge would try to stay on topic a little more around here...JEEEEEZ!!!)

Silverados are nice, but its risky business putting one in direct competition with a Ford.
I know, makes the poor Ford owner look bad when they get whipped.
We have a Silverado, a Suburban, and I have 2 1 ton wreckers. I have owned Fords but I don't like the way the suspension and steering act under a heavy load. Just towed a 38' camper with a slide out with our Suburban 1500 series all the way for NJ to State College , PA. I also towed things with my 1 ton that no 1 ton has any business towing like a Mitsubishi box truck with a 28' box with a load on it, 66 800 series Ford dump truck, van loaded with engine blocks, and a school bus just to name a few. I do have 2 12,000 pound worm drive Braiden winches on the back with 3/8 steel core cables and I have to stall a 225 HP small block before they stop pulling. I also hauled my IH TD6 track loader home with it.

That Ford literally crushed that Chevy. However, if you put up a stock 3/4 ton, 4 wheel drive, Chevy against a similiarly equipped Ford it would be no contest. Chevy wins hands down (and I'm not a Chevy guy).

I can't decide if that was staged to happen that way or if the Chevy guys workmanship was just poor. Not sure about other places but here in the towing business Chevy commands a high price if you want one and Fords can be had cheap. Talking wreckers and roll backs.

Sort of but was it intentional or just lack of engineering the truck when it was lifted like that?

Well, my "Theory" was based more on the supposition of "Sabotage" than it was on "Inept Workmanship". (...however, we ARE talkin' about "Rednecks" here, and so I suppose we certainly CAN'T rule out that second postulate which you so wisely bring up here!)

Come on now we all know that's what happens any time you put a chevy against a Ford.

Well, I guess you guys didn't know that our very own Chad here actually moonlights as a caped crusader down there in Houston on his off-hours...and thus the very reason that that large Texas city's crime rate is so darn low and remains the paramount example of righteousness in "God's Country"!!! His motto: "I AM Locopony: The Triumph-riding Avenger of the Night"! (...sorry Chad, but the truth was bound to come to light eventually, ya know!...and besides, IF you would've put me on your payroll along with that manservant of yours, I would've NEVER let this cat outta the bag like this, ya know!!!!)

Caught an episode of Top Gear with a Blazer,Jeep, and Bronco all pitted against each other. The Bronco literally fell apart, Jeep had issues but only running out of gas really stopped it and the Blazer made it unscathed. In fairness even with a broken axle the Bronco might have finished if the driver had not left his spare behind to save weight and the Jeep too if the driver had been more conservative in driving style to save fuel. Was a funny part where they met a road on the end of a leg across Death Valley where they were not allowed to let their tires touch pavement. The Bronco guy dumped the truck on it's side and dragged it across the road and the Blazer guy found some old carpets (I suspect it was staged) and put one under it and took the others and put them over top of it and hook the ends together creating a kind of conveyor belt with the blazer inside it then drove the truck across the road and it worked! .

Was that on the British version of "Top Gear", or the(and I'm sorry to say) inferior American version of the show, Ian? (...yep, for some reason, that show just doesn't "translate" as well when it's produced over here...my theory: It's extremely hard to be as subtly snide and "cheeky" as Mr. Clarkson is withOUT that whole "superfluous u" thing they've got goin' on over there on that little island!!!)

Have you caught "The Car Show"? It's actually not too bad, and I think Adam Carolla is about as close to a Clarkson as any Yank is ever gonna get.

It kinda goes in the old I'd rather push a Harley than ride a real motorcycle. Cause riding one scares me. Or how ever it goes.

On the subject of the famous blue oval, watch this clip of an Aussie 1971 Ford Falcon GTHO as it does 3 laps around Mt Panorama, Bathurst. This car was the fastest 4 door production car in the world back then. This historic cars race was recently run featuring cars of the 50's, 60's, and early 70's. http://www.mustang.org.au/forum/viewthread.php?tid=15263Found the specs: Engine: 351 cubic inch Cleveland V8 (5.763 litre) Bore & Stroke: 102 x 89mm (4.00 x 3.50in) Power (DIN): 224kW (300bhp) @ 5400rpm. Note: Output was understated as 300bhp to satisfy insurers. Generally accepted as 350-380bhp Torque (DIN:) 515Nm (380lb-ft) @ 3400rpm Compression Ratio: 11.5:1 Configuration: Front mounted, longitudinal, 90 degree V8 Head Design: Pushrod & rocker OHV with solid lifters. Note: 2 optional lifts available with the same duration Exhaust System: H&M headers with low restriction twin exhaust Fuel System: 780cfm Holley 4 barrel carburettor Ignition System: Twin point distributor Larger harmonic balancer 6150 rpm rev limiter Windage tray and baffles in sump Of course these are factory specs, the one in the video would be much higher!!

At the beginning, I think there was just a little HP advantage against those Cortinas, Opels and Datsun 510s. They'd hold their own in the handling department though.
