As the Mrs goes out through the front door I was getting the bike out of the garage (02 BA) and as she sets off in the car for work she says to me you be careful on that bike.

So I thought right she's working until 9pm and for tea when she gets home I will do us a nice fillet steak. Off to Morrisons, as I enter the car park there is a Range Rover in front of me, before I knew what was going on, the back end of the vehicle was riding up my front wheel towards me, the bike starts to fall with the weight to the right hand side and down I go. she had spotted an empty space...

A woman gets out of the Range Rover as I lay on the ground, shouting I am sorry I did not see you, I had looked in my mirror but could not see anything.

Damage to the bike:

Front wheel buckled slightly (maybe rotor)
Powdercoat took off the front forks with the tow bar
right hand side foot peg snapped off
Brake lever bent in
Front indicator braket twisted

Someone called the police and paramedics, police took details and she admitted liability. Paramedic looked at my wrist and said I had strained it, he noticed all the stitches in the same wrist from my bad smash last year and said it is starting to swell.

~It normally does I said if I over work it on the bike...

BL@@DY cage drivers....

Sorry to hear this, Ray. As will be said many times to come in this thread, I'm glad to hear this was a slow-speed incident and that most likely the biggest pain-in-the-ass(or "arse" as you guys say over there ) will be the inconvenience to your time that you'll be going through for a while in getting your bike repaired.

(...and btw...I'm startin' to think that maybe cagers should start gettin' an ADDITIONAL ticket for "NOT bein' original" whenever they can ONLY come up with that lame-ass..err, lame-ARSE excuse of "I am sorry I did not see you"!!!...not a bad idea, EH?!)

Glad your ok, sucks about the bike. Gotta stay out from directly behind them cagers specially in SUVs. Women can't see out a mini much less a rover

Thanks guys, just getting a little bit stiff in the shoulders, but I think that is with trying to hold the bike up and not let it hit the ground. The wrist is swollen, but can use all the fingers, so no harm done there.

Ray, if it's any consolation at least it was an English cage and not some rice burner that backed into you. Hope you get things sorted soon. And your wrist shrinks back to normal size even sooner!

Glad you're ok.

A friend of mine had something similar happen to him & his valkyrie about three years ago. Wrenched something in his neck that hasn't been the same since, even sitting on the bike hurt. Meds, chiropractor, etc., not much help.

Then this summer he bonked his head on a rock doing a roll in the rapids on his kayak (yeah, can't ride, but can kayak!) and everything seemingly snapped back to normal. Now he's trying to get the honda licensed, etc., again.

No word on how the rock is doing.

The best of it is a few hours later and I am reading your post again dwight and yes laughing..... Hopefully not going through the Insurance companies as I think they will write the bike off. Only insured it for £1000.00 as I only use it during winter and the T-bird the rest of the time....

Glad to hear you're mostly OK and the bike's not too bad.

Bl**dy SUVs ... I hate them. Totally redundant (in most cases) and dangerous vehicle type for extremely selfish people (they want to be safer at the expense of everyone else). I try to be extra vigilant around shopping mall car parks and schools when 4wd mums are dropping off/collecting their sprogs and ignoring all the road rules and driving with tunnel vision.

The sad irony is that many small children are killed each year in their own driveways by SUVs driven by their own parents who got the the SUV to make the kids safer.

Glad your OK and the bike is fixable. One of the reasons I try to keep my headlights in their rear view mirrors all the time! But as you know, it only takes one time not to do it.

Bummer, glad you are mostly OK. Here, in the states they would definitely have 'totaled' your ride. They totaled mine for dents and scratches to tank, fender, clutch cover and floor boards. Bought it back for salvage and had it fixed. Just got it back this week, oh yaeh, with new suspension and mirrors and a few scratches. Glad you are OK.

Range rover? Don't they have those little safety stickers on the visor? The one that tells you how to put it in 4wd and how to avoid tipping oh and the one that say, "Remove head from @$$ before operating!"

Really glad you are okay, Ray! The bike is a serious bummer... 'nuf said about that. I'm just wondering if a good LOUD horn might have saved the day... or did you not have enough time to get her attention in that or any other way?

Sorry this happened to ya, man!!

Bl**dy H**l Ray,
another one.

Glad to hear your okay.

The problem with using your horn with women driving Range Rovers is they either cant hear cause they've got Take That on at full tilt or you'll frighten them so they stamp on the gas and end up running over you at speed.

I cant understand why you were going to the shop. Surely the reason why you are marrying Bonnie is so that you dont have to make tea. Come on get a grip.

You can rebuild the bike you have the technology.

You know where I am if you need a lift with anything.

Get well soon

Cheers everyone, as for the horn did not get a chance tried going to press it but the rear end on the Range Rover was on top of the front wheel. Which made it rather difficult to get the finger to the horn...

Just a little stiff this morning, but no bruising, wrist seems alright and the swelling gone completely....

You need a better horn. The setup I got from Custom Chrome is so loud that the sonic waves fend off most would be attackers.

Good advice that I use at all intersections, I always expect someone to run the stop or simply pull out anyway. Also ride to the outside of the lane away from trucks and try to stay out of blind spots as much as possible. If you can see the driver in the mirror they can see you. (not saying they will but they can.) I also never hang alongside a truck I wait and pass them all at once to limit exposure.
