I said in a previous thread that I was looking for something with more power so that Jo & I could go touring with ease. The Speedy just didn't have the get up and go that I need for 2 up plus luggage. Last Thursday 3 mates dragged me off to our local ****** dealership on a shopping expedition. I saw it, rode it, loved it, bought it. Here's what I ended up with. 2010 Super Glide Custom with 2780 Klms. on the clock. Being retired I couldn't justify keeping the Speedy as well. I'll still hang around even if it is only to poke a little fun when my good friends North of the lower 48 have to put their bikes in winter storage.

Nice move Frank! I can understand why you did it, but just one question... did you consider an R3 at all? Meanwhile, you'd better stick around... in spite of all the razzing and teasing you do with us Northern folk, I do appreciate the humour and lightheartedness. Btw... where have you been? Oh yeah... the Dark Side!

Yes Keith I did consider the R3. The nearest ones I could find for sale at the right price were in Brisbane which is 400 Klms. away. When our Harley / Triumph dealership came under new ownership 3 months ago, Harley told the new owners that they had to dump Triumph or loose the Harley dealership. Bundaberg where I live isn't a very big town and there is no way a stand alone Triumph dealership would survive. Harleys are so entrenched in the cruiser market here it was the only way to go. Although it is a lot heavier than the Speedy, I find it is in fact easier to ride. And being only 5'5" my feet are nearly flat on the ground. Where as on the Speedy riding 2 up was a struggle everytime we came to a stop. And the power is unbelievable.

It looks very nice Frank. Sounds like it's just what you were looking for. What size engine does it have?

Thanks Richard. 96 cu in. 1584cc.
Only problem so far is to many gears, hard to work out which one you are in. Only tells you when you are in 6th.

That's nearly twice the size of your America. And I imagine all that extra weight is low down so you don't notice it. We expect to get the occasional update on your big Tour De Force. I assume you have a laptop you're taking with you. When do you hit the road?

Looks like fun however you do understand that some ribbing is in order.
It looks like a Milwaukee tractor to me.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

Centre of gravity is a lot lower than the Speedy.
Which in my vertically challenged condition is really good.
Trip is not planned untill early next year, so we can get North after the wet season.

Earth calling Frank.... earth calling Frank.... Now let me get things straight, you stated that you didn't get a Triumph because the dealership is too far away... I own an America and the nearest dealer is 700 km away. My wife knows of my plans for the future though....Triumph all the way. (now if she would only let me exercise my right???...yah right!!!) I hope you come to your senses and trade that monster in after your upcoming trip . We know you're a Triumph rider at heart and you better not leave this site or a couple of Canadians will have to come looking for you....Did I ever tell you about my Italian heritage....Cement shoes. We guarantee one size fits all. In all fairness, I hope you have a riot with the new bike. Take care with the extra power and weight. I'm kicking myself for missing a 2007 R3 a couple of weeks ago that was on sale for $8900 with 12,000kms on it. The wife would have shot me though. Keep in touch bro.

Huh, I hate to say it (because of the deaths) but that's what they get for going with advanced modern technology like rubber-mounted engines.

I doubt the rubber-mounted design really contributes that much to this so-called "death wobble", John.
Ya see, I caught that report on my TV the other day(KPHO is Phoenix's CBS affiliate shown over my cable up here in Prescott), and during this report there was a comparison video between a H-D full-dresser and a BMW R1200RT shown from behind during a medium speed sweeping turn in progress. The H-D appeared to "wobble", which actually appeared to me to be more of a wallow in mid-turn, and which I would associate more with the effects of a under rebounding dampened rear shock situation.
(...kind of like what happens occasionally with those lousy friggin' cheap-ass things Mr. Bloor and his boys loosely refer to as "shocks" that come "standard" on our bikes)

I haven't rode that many HDs, at least not at high speed, but, I was surprised to find this wobble issue is common knowledge among HD riders. My brothers have never mentioned it, but over at Dephi"s NewTriumphBonneville forum all the HD/Bonnie owners confirm it.

Oh yeah... I'm all too familiar with THAT particular situation on our bikes. It has (more than once) scared the crap outta me during a deep lean on a good twisty at high speed!
