Notice that the car ahead of the rider was tailgating. The rider was hanging back and being careful but it's a lesson to really watch the rear vision.
Hmmm, I reckon you're right Frank. After watching it e few times I think the rider had nowhere to go - maybe nothing he could have done to avoid the arseh0le behind hime.

Looks like attempted murder to me. Thats what they should charge the driver with.

CNN interviewed the guy who was hit this morning. He said he had passed the car that hit him a few seconds or so prior, because the driver was driving erratically and appeared to be "dancing" in his/her seat to music in the car. He said he'd either be more severely injured or dead if he hadn't been wearing his helmet. He was also pissed that the driver of the car had neither license nor insurance, and he/she only received a few tickets and was not arrested.

Yeah, well, that's certainly understandable!

Though, I'm not so sure in this particular case lane-splitting would've saved this guy from his fate, due to the fact that traffic appeared to be moving at about a 35 to 45 MPH clip(too fast to lane-split) until it quickly slowed in front of him. Notice the motorcyclist's rear wheel appeared to smoke due to his applying hard braking.
(...but yeah Soren, as you know, I've always been an advocate of lane-splitting)

Being a simple country boy, that's another reason I live in a county with no more than 2 lanes or stop & go-go lights. Most folks see little difference between stop, yield or NO signs, which can make driving . I will be in the Dallas/Fort Worth area the first week of June, but will wisely let my sister/brother-in-law handle the getting around part. jh

And a lot more deer, dogs, coyotes, and other wild beasts.... tractors, farm animals, and gravel junctions that spread gravel on the road.

It's just amazing he survived. How terrible. If people would only pay attention the number of accidents would be reduced so very much. I put a flasher on my brake lights and it does seem to help. The local HOG chapter president was killed in February by a driver that was looking for something on the floor of his car. He crossed the center line and our friend was hit head on and died within 2 hrs. Left his wife injured but OK and both bikes were totaled. He's just been charged with vehicular manslaughter. So very sad for both families.

Hmmm, good idea. That might have saved the rider in the vid - it might have caught the driver's attention.

Yeah, well Jason, I'm just glad that that helmet he was wearing didn't "break his neck"...and/or he didn't succumb to any OTHER Urban Myths or misplaced rationales for not wearing one!!! (...'cause that kid would ALMOST ASSUREDLY BE DEAD NOW if he wasn't wearing one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Yes this guy would likely be dead if he did have his helmet on. However the neck break factor is real not a myth. Greg Haynes a friend of mine in Arkansas lives in a wheel chair because that very factor. Granted he would be dead other wise. Given the choice dead or wheelchair I choose dead. Now having said this I must add. That it is not a good reason to choose not to wear a helmet. Whether you wear one or not man up and say. Its my choice and I made it then live with the results.

I'm tempted to hook up my horn to the brakes. I wonder if it would be possible to set it up so that the horn came on during hard braking.

Ok then or die from the results. I just don't wanna hear ya crying if your killed in a wreck cause you didn't have a helmet on. Or if you had a helmet on and live through it just make a choice and deal with the end results. What ever they may be.

I do like those brake flashers. They seem to get drivers attention more effectively. I am even thinking about that my own self. I don't know if I wanna do it now or after I change my lights over to LEDs.

I have one of the flashing bulbs. I think it helps, but wonder if an exploding tail light would get the attention of some of these moronic drivers Uncle Charlie
