Well yesterday my middle son Bob headed out to boot for the Marines.Headed out to Paris Island S.C.In todays troubled times I can't help but worry a bit. It's kind of funny when Bob was younger he was your typical couch potatoe preferring video games to outdoor activities.More than once I would find myself wondering where his life would take him, however the past several years he's been working out and eating right.Fact is when we said our goodbyes at his going away party he hugged me and I thought I heard something crack in my back.He is more than ready for this new chapter in his life.He has a no bulls@%t attitude and I truly believe he will go far.I just thought I would share this with you good folks,my extended family. Semper Fi!
Just an old Hippie and I don"t know what to do.

Looks like Bob has become a man. An honorable path to choose. I hope he keeps safe too.

Congratulation to you, for raising a fine son and to Bob for upholding his patriotism.
What continues to amaze me is the way you Americans fiercely support your armed sevices and their sevicemen and women, both during and after their service.

I remember that first day of boot camp more clearly than most other days of my life. My family and I deeply appreciate his willingness to serve and wish him nothing but the best in boot camp and beyond. Cheers!

I would've of pointed him to the Navy (22 years), but all is good. He already rates in my book for pickin up the torch and running with it. Good luck to him.

Wow! How I envy your son just starting his "Adventure" of life. The military was really good to me and I hope it does well for your son. I know you're proud of him, you should be. Fair winds and following seas to Bob from Bob.

Ah, P.I. and memories of scrambled eggs that could only be eaten with a spoon. But by mid-morning, I was glad to have anything in my belly. Our best to him!

The Few, The Proud, The US Navy Base gate guards!! Sorry, that was old Navy joke. Way back when, it seemed the only Marines we saw were gate guards at each base. The Marines always had the best looking uniforms and I still think it's the least pc of all the Armed Services. He will make you proud and best wishes to him in this new chapter in his life. Be sure to encourage him to push himself when it comes to opportunities while serving and not just sit back thinking, "I'm just an E-4, I'll let someone else worry about that". The more he gives, the more they will give back. And that's from my own personal experience, which still rewards me today (and it's been 23+ years since I was honorably discharged from the Nuke Navy).

My Thanks to Bob for his willingness to serve our country. May he enjoy his service and come home safe. America has been blessed over the years that our young people have always stepped forward to protect and defend her.
