Wow. So I have some Carline bars I want to try on my bike but I can't get that dang bolt off the bottom of my tree holding on my stock bars. Ian (happy birthday btw) and I talked a little about this but I can't get those suckers. Looks like it's normal thread not reversed. I tried a socket, wrench, WD40 and vice grips. So as you can imagine its getting pretty whooped on. What do I have to do to get that bugger off of there?

do you mean the nut under the triple tree that hold the riser on? Thank you.

That is on a bolt so if you just crank on it it will either break off or turn either way it is off. A pipe wrench put on square will take it off if it is already rounded if not then just crank on it with a good fitting 6 point socket and 1/2 drive ratchet. If all else fails you can grind it off. I would say heat but don't want to risk damage to the clear coat on the upper tree.

Yeah I worried about heat too. I've debated taking a dremel to it. But I like the pipe wrench idea. I think the right one is beyond a socket but there still may be hope for my left nut. I'm sorry guys it was too much to pass up

Did you try pounding on the handle of the socket wrench with a mallet or dead blow hammer?

Have you tried turning it the wrong way? Sometimes this can crack the bond so you can undo it.

Watch out that you don't shear off the steering stops when your doing all this wrenching.

Spray a little of my old friend, "PB Blaster" on each nut and let it sit for a few hours. A few more spritzes during that time won't hurt anything. Penetrating fluid can work wonders sometimes.

Alright got them pulled off today. I'll post a pic once I get the new bars on because it's always more interesting with a picture. Thanks again for the suggestions.

YES I'm for real! Sorry! It was 4:45 in the morning here, don't know what time it was there, the last time I looked under my bike was ~5 months ago and that was only to clean it. I must be suffering CRS (can't remember sh!t), besides my Triumph I have a few other bikes and when somebody starts talking about something, I can picture it but sometimes its of another bike 
I just wanted to give a shout out (I could picture someone with a 2 foot breaker bar trying to break the nut loose)I rather err on the safe side. Now that I'm home from work, I can see that a 1/4" drive ratchet could do the job,again sorry my question upset you.

 For those of you interested I got my Carlini bars installed yesterday. T-bar 1.5 inch. It was a project with some learning curves thrown in there. But I like the way it looks. Even with the bike BACK in winter storage...so sorry for the bad quality picture. Thanks for moving this to the right forum John, wasn't sure where to post it. Brett

PB Blaster has worked great for me. Has a very potent smell, but works.
