so it's not just unwary drivers who are trying to kill me these days. On the way home from work last night i had an idiot walk out in front of me after i had signaled, repeatedly blipped the throttle on the downshifts and leaned in /committed to a hard left turn in traffic. fortunately i was only doing maybe 25mph at the moment i had to lock up the brakes and lay it down. Low speed low side and i rode her down, never took my feet off the pegs or my butt off the seat. I slid about 30-40 feet amid a shower of sparks, stopping within inches of taking the morons' legs off. I immediately knew i was ok and hurriedly righted the bike, gave the jerk a piece of my mind... something about crossing the street in the dark while wearing dark clothes, i had the right of way, yadda yadda yadda, then fired the bike up and roared home... about a block away. Damage assessment was: new handlebars @ 1/2inch shorter on the left end, lightened kickstand tang, damaged left slip-on muffler, left rear axle cover not so pretty any more, a fair sized hole in the left butt cheek of my pants, sore left shoulder, bruised left knee, and i used up about a quart of adrenaline that i had been saving for a different occasion. All in all i'm happy it wasn't more serious, but boy was i ****** off!!!

should have just clipped him! You are hindering Darwins plan by letting the lame as# survive.
good to hear you were not hurt and the bike only a little.

Rob, you need to stop laying your bike down! It's becoming a yearly thing with you.
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

Actually it's a bi-yearly thing. But you're right about the need to stop doing it!

Wow Rob, glad to hear you are ok, so to speak. Damn there are a lot of idiots on this planet it seems. I just saw a set of speedy bars and a stock seat for sell locally, let me know if you want the link.

My guess...it wouldn't have mattered if in addition to your throttle-blipping you might have had a 125dB horn on your bike a hit THAT a few times TOO, Rob. 'Cause ya see, I'm thinkin' the guy probably had Eminem's latest cranked up through his earbuds!!!
Sorry to hear this, but hey it could be worse, ya know. Your gas tank could've gotten dented too.
(...and THAT would've REALLY p*ssed ME off!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I did actually go back to hunt for the guy but he must've heard me coming because he was nowhere to be found. Probably better that way. I don't want to go back to jail. I had about a quarter of a second to decide whether to take him out or go down. The safest thing for me was to lay it down. There was potential for a helluva lot of pain for both of us if i'd have hit him. There was nowhere else to go except through him or into a ditch or telephone pole. Not much of a choice to be made at the time. In a straight line i may have nailed him because there was oncoming traffic, but in the midst of a turn i didn't feel it was an option. The damage was (amazingly!) very minimal. I am thankful for that. The muffler is the only immediately obvious damage and it's just not that big of a deal. The bars will be fine. I had on my work uniform pants, so no loss there. My bike has a little more character now and i have another close call under my belt. Hopefully that's the last time for a long time!

I get black people here walking down the middle of the road all the time here. Not only dark clothes but dark skin too and they never move out of the way, they expect you to drive around them. I have almost hit a few simply because they are almost invisible at night. Then I have gotten really ****** and clipped a few with my mirror on purpose. I know, I know, I shouldn't.

The "U" is Infamous.....didn't yah know....EH!
Glad you weren't hurt Rob. Time to start up a thread on close calls we've all had.
Many years ago, I had to put my BSA on it's side when a driver in front of me signaled for a left hand turn then made a right while I was trying to pass him ..... on the right. Put her down with bent bars and broken mirror.
Had another moron approaching me as I was driving my bent BSA up the street and he made a left hand turn just feet in front of me...no signals...no warning. I hit his right rear quarter panel with my front end. Bent front rim and forks. No injuries to me. Keep em coming....

Yeah, it's a new thing, "go ahead and I dare you to hit me, you caucasion oppressor who enslaved my ancestors". But, it isn't only a black (gangster punk)thing. Lots of young people, including whites are playing that game too. Always young punks. But, on the other note, I can't believe you couldn't find him easily after that near miss. He would be the guy with a bulge in the rear of his pants and a terrible smell....
