So....for my 40th one of my friends got me a GoPro camera. Ive always wanted one so Ive been jonesing to get something recorded.
Today all my mounts arrived so on went the roll bar mount to my right fork leg and a quick spin down the street.
Then I added a theme and some tunes and here is what I have:

Very Nice! Good music too. Can you record the sounds on your ride as well? It would be nice to have the motor sounds, traffic sounds, etc and overlay them with music at times, instead of just the music all the time. That looks like a fun toy to play with.

Yeah but then you get the annoying sound of wind rushing past the mic which tends to overpower any other sounds.

The first video I posted to Facebook had the motor sounds and it was ... not manly. It truly did not bring out the depth of my Spares.

That was pretty cool Z.

It took me a few moments to register you were riding on the wrong side of the road.

You realise now that you are going to have to make sure that you don't hit any puddles or surface water now.

Actually, us Yanks drive on the right side of the road.

I don't know about nowadays, but Z did have a great GPS gadget, a couple of years ago. We rode from Seattle all the way up to Bellingham (2+ hours by slab and cage). We went the scenic backroads and under a steady cover of rain almost the whole way. Meanwhile, all I heard back home was about the beautiful sunny weather they were enjoying. I swear that GPS was, in actuality, a divining rod, programmed to take us on the wettest path to our destination.

But it was still good fun!

Better make a lexan spark-guard for the lense.

Just in case.

It's normally the first turn outside Logan International in a hire car that is the tricky one.

Z,

Just wondered why you chose to locate the camera there rather than say for instance, on he handlebars?

The video was great but I would have thought that there would be less chance of debris hitting the camera higher up.

Robert (Habuba) and I purchased the GoPro Hero HD 960 at the International Motorcycle Show in Long Beach last month. We love it. (Also got it for $20 less than MSRP). We have only used it once, on a ski trip the Monday after Christmas. I just need to get some current video editing software, for my PC that is, to get it cleaned up for viewing. Any recommendations?

Bill,
I got the HD. I had it set to 720p 60fps. I needed to adjust the shutter as well, it is a bit dark...but it was dusk when I took the ride so not bad I guess.

Well...being the tinkering soul I am I ordered three seat mounts (these are the ones that for the bars. I ordered three so I could mount them up and then swap the camera to different locations as I want), one roll bar mount (to fit the fork leg) and one chest strap (that Im going to put on my friends toddler and let him run around with it....just to see things as he does).

The fork leg just happens to be the one I chose to record first.

Hey Z... how does that thing attach to places like the fork or peg? I just invested in a setup that includes one of these, the Sony HD Bloggie...

which attaches to one of these, the Gorillapod...

so you can do things like this.

There are several Gorillapod models... and I settled for one with magnetic feet. I seems to grip quite well in various places on my bike, but I haven't had 'er out yet (what with being winter and all).

Thanks - I have to say that the quality of the video even via youtube is compellingly good. I'm sure that when we see it there it's dumbed way down from your originals. the music is genius too although as someone said, we want to hear, at least, your pipes.

You need mountainman to help you with multi-track editing.

Maybe this is going on my birthday list.

Edit: Yes, I just checked the youtube clip and it's 30 fps.

Ah, so THAT'S how it's mounted... thanks Bill. And yup, I'm gonna give that gorillapod a try on the bike. The Sony Bloggie is quite light so it should work.

Keith,
I did that a couple years ago with a camera that had a stabalization feature in it... didnt work so good. That gorilla thing is great for still shots but that blogee is going to get knocked around in the wind.

Now....get those wheels spinning and figure out how you can solidly mount the blogee and take a ride.

The software I used doesn't do multitrack. I am debating on spending a few bucks and getting the Final Cut Express software. Its supposed to retain video quality too.

I know I shot that at 60fps but it must have downgraded it.

Wish I could take a ride, Z. It's not only too wintery out there, my bike is torn apart too.

Meanwhile about the gorillapod... yeah, must admit I was/am a bit skeptical about it working out on the bike. I figure it will at least work behind the windshield though.

It does not have an external mic input. Heres what the web site states:

Audio Excellence
We’ve invested more in the HD HERO camera’s sound system than most companies spend on their entire camera development. You’ll only be hearing the sounds of your sport, not the howl of the wind. How? Obsessive audio engineering and an understanding that good sound is as important as good video.

NOW....with the above what you need to know is that the camera comes in a clear, sealed, waterproof housing. That is what I used on my maiden voyage.
There is an optional open back design for use when moisture is not a concern as well as an accessory "skeleton case" that has the sides opened up for access to connections and SD card.

Ill make a run with the open back and I have the skeleton case on order (mainly cause Id like to plug power into it for longer rides).

Of course Ill report back with another video with the open back on it so you all can hear my pipes roar....maybe.

I guess at some point the question of "how long can it record" will come up so here is what Ive found:
Depending on video settings you can get over 8 hours of video on a 32G SD card.
The battery lie is approx 2 hours unless you plug it into a power source.

I thought I read about a longer life battery as well as an optional video screen for the back but now I cant find that info.
