Ohhhhh Saturday was a black day for me.

I got hit by a cager coming out of a junction. What made things worse was I saw her looking in my direction and I even moved into a more defensive road position, nearly was able to get out of the way but she got me square on.

I would have said she couldn't have done it much better even if she wanted to hit me but I took the bumper off her car and put a nice Graham sized dent in the bonnet (hood to our USA cousins).

I have no idea on the state of the bike as I was whining like a B**ch on the floor and couldn't stand up to see what had been done to it.

Well I had a lucky escape, no broken bones but my left ankle has got some major swelling and looks like I've torn the ligaments, if not seriously bruised them. Having said that I did end up going for a busmans holiday in an ambulance.

I don't know what was worse, having some junior Dr at the hospital poking my ankle or ringing Sandy up in the USA to tell her about my exploits.

Anyhow I'm onto the insurance folks and they are going to send an assessor out to work out if it's repairable.

One thing I have noticed though - I think I need to get fitter to use crutches as they are killing me at the moment.

Zut alors, a Renault?!! Too bad it was a 2CV, you probably wouldn't hurt yourself or the bike hitting those things.

Hope you have a speedy recovery and that the bike is not too badly banged up.

Thanks guys!

In a strange sort of way I'm hoping that "the yellow peril" is a write off.

I was going to be selling it as soon as the house sold and I was on my way to my new place in Massachusetts.

If it was recorded as being in an accident then it would certainly reduce the value of it on any subsequent sale.

Anyhow I'm currently researching the pain relieving qualities of the drinks cabinet so dont expect any sense coming out of this keyboard anytime soon.......but then again - nothing new there.

Close call mate, glad it's just a minor injury but chances are that yellow speedy of yours will be playing a harp!

Does she know you are a fire dragon when the moon is out?

Hope to catch up with you for a beer at Dent bud!

Glad you made it with just your ankle getting banged up, take care!! Sometimes parts are worth more then the complete bike, you can always part it out.

Get well soon.

Parting it out is a good idea, but it's still one less proper bike

Glad your alright Graham mate (mostly anyways ).it might be a blessing in disguise,no really it might (painful as im sure it is, Colins Glenmorangie idea should work or maybe yon asda/tesco muck you drank before should )it may just solve your ship or sell dilemma .anyways hope it all works out in your favour mate .

Gald to know you survived with only minor injuries, Sorry to hear about the bike. That sucks for sure.

Thanks guys!

Newcastle brown ale and Ben Nevis single malt helped me sleep like a baby last night. It however, was of no use this morning when I woke up and forgot I was actually using crutches to walk with.

Never mind, headbutting the wardrobe did remind me.

And so to another day of daytime tv and youtube while waiting for the insurance people to get back to me.

Really sorry to hear of this Graham, though I'm glad to hear your injuries weren't any worse than they were.

And re your bike: My first thought here was what a shame it was that your yellow and black Speedy took this hit and might have to be totaled.

(...and mainly because that yellow and black Speedy of yours is just about the ONLY bike that I've ever seen any of you Limeys own over there where that big a$$ yellow and black billboard of a license plate that they make you guys put on your bikes over there didn't stick out like a sore thumb!!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I'm not sure which would be worse... wrecking your bike or moving to Massachusetts!
Still, all the best with both situations!

Try and locate a Kneewalker. I rented one for the wife at a medical supply shop last year. www.kneewalker.com

Glad to hear you're up though.

Thanks for the info on the kneewalker Steve but alas my shin is pretty sore as well so it would be pretty akward.

Apart from my ankle being sore the worse thing is the boredom.

I can't get out much at the moment and all my furniture, dvds and wii are in Cheshire MA, so all I have is a portable tv, camp cot and an inflatable seat.

I was hoping to get a few weeks off but just got signed off for 2 otherwise I'd have gone over to my new house as I have 2 automatic cars there that I could at least get out and do stuff with.

Anyhow back to youtube and some boring pictures of my bruisd ankle....good job I was wearing proper motorcycle boots with armour in.

Just been told the bike is a write off.

Considering I had 32k miles on it and no real service history as I did most of the stuff myself. I think that £2500 isn't too bad as I only paid £3200 for it 3 1/2 years ago and put a good 28k miles on it myself.

The sad thing is no more bike here at the mo - gonna have to be an automatic car but waiting for personal injury claim n looking at a speedy in the usa.
