Anyone do just this on a 790? Wondering about any gains. Currently run Uni-pods, high-performance intakes and Epcos. Snaps pretty good with an old fat guy on back, but looking for a bit more w/o going the 904 route. Also wondering about what a port/polish job should run.
Thanks.

I did on my port/polish with bigger valves, but at the same time as the 904, so I can't say what the increase would be just from doing headwork. I'm sure you can pick up at least 5hp and 3-4 ftlbs of torque with a good job. You should be able to get yours done for 4-800 bucks.

how much did you gain from doing the head work and the 904 kit? did you ever have it on a dyno before or after in your opnion is it worth it?

Hi Peter, try having a look at the dyno results table here and click on the link . Then have a look for Dave's numbers. I'm pretty sure he has several dynos from start to finish. I can't access it cos I'm on a crappy work computer.
Staintune Pipes, K&N Pods, 45 pilots, TBS needles and 145 mains.

Here is what I had with 790, Sceptre Pipes, Nology coils and wires, airbox removed with K&N filters. Notice the spike in torque that caused it to probably incorrectly read 47.39 ftlbs, I think the 44 would be more accurate.

And here it was after the 904 with port/polish and +1mm oversize intake and exhaust valves

A gain of around 16rwhp and almost 10ftlbs of torque.
It still required fine tuning after this run, and I've done more since then to get it even more power and dialed in.

thanx, thats not to bad but its alot of money for those results. I can port and polish myself but the big bore kit is a couple of bucks plus the pods and new pipes. I would also like to see what the results with it stroked out and new cams.

It's worth the money considering I do a lot of 2-up riding. And compared to the cost of a Harley.

i agree and dissagree harleys have there pros and cons but the torque is much better stock and there is a whole lot more you can do. I really love my speedmaster and have since i bought new in 04. I have ridden alot of different bikes and the older and fatter i get i really want more power hense the reason i want to enhance the engine performance of my bike. I have no desire to ever get rid of my bike but a harley is defintely gonna be in my future. Just to show I am not one sided the thunderbird and rocket 3 still kick most stock harley asses

The point I was going for is that you can add good power to these bikes and make them comparable to a HD in hp and tq vs. weight for a whole lot less money than you can get a stock HD off the showroom floor for. And the RIII will kick ALL stock Harley asses

I defintely agree and I really love these bikes the look the handeling and its nice to show up on somthing that is different. I am partial to the dark side being that I am a H-D mechanic so i see those price tags and kinda winse and shake my head and laugh when some rub has me put on some chrome cover. But i love all bikes and always intersted in learning more.

The performance upgrades are not too expensive either. Just try it with a HD. Hope you got a fat wallet. I love my bike.

I would really like to see an answer to the original question. From everything I've read it seems that there is hp to be gained from cleaning up the heads
08 America, A/I &, Calif emissions "stuff" gone, air box removed & battery relocated, billet intakes, UNI Pods, 145 mains, 42 pilots, Stage 2 igniter, intminators, 813 cams, Progressive 412's, modified seat.

I port matched my intake manifolds to the ports in the head (I left it~1/16" smaller all around) butt dyno says an increase, didn't do a before and after, but on a real dyno (after), I have over 60+HP (can't find the dyno sht. )from an other wise stock motor,if it ain't broke why fix it.
