If you think they have cabin fever.

I live on the East Coast of Queensland.

Wanted to go for a ride today.

Couldn't go East, Coral Sea gets in the way.

Couldn't go South, Roads are flooded.

Couldn't go North, roads are closed for repair after all the rain.

Couldn't go West, roads are flooded and to badly damaged.

Stayed at home and tried to repair my d*m pump after it got covered in water after the last storm.

After that I sat on the back veranda and watched the RAAF C130 Hercules going in to land at the local airport with vital groceries for our supermarkets. We have had no roads open to semi trailers fo 7 days.

For all of us. Florida is the only state in the union that doesn't have any snow right now. Even Hawaii has some on top of a volcano.

Thanks for the thoughts John & Keith.

We live about 500 metres from the Burnett River, but we are on really high ground.

We have an expected river flood level of 7.5 metres at 6pm tonight at the town centre. Some of the houses that were flooded just after Christmas are going to get water through them again.

Well Dwight it certainly is a C?RRENT event.

We have to go into town today for medication.

Due to the C?RRENT event our 23 Klm. journey will turn into a 135 Klm trip.

Reason being, the C?RRENT in the river is still rising.

Well HECK, erle! I think you're gettin' the wrong idea here!

Yep, ya see my "quest-in-life" is NOT to "obliterate" the letter "U" from the English language! NOOOOOOO! It's to take up the "cause" of one smart and freedom loving American lexicographer by the name of Noah Webster(1758-1843) whose "great contribution" to the world was to rid it of that SUPERFLUOUS U in certain words!!!

(...hey, everybody has their "hobbies", RIGHT?!)

Well Steve, because it hasn't warmed up all that much since the last snow storm around here two weeks ago when we got about a foot of the stuff up here in northern AZ, I still have just about that amount sittin' on my property where I haven't had to shovel it...driveway, patios and decks.

But yeah, I did take my BA out for a spin just the other day now that it's hittin' in the low-50s again and now that the roads aren't icy anymore. And so, I suppose, the claim of "cabin fever" being the cause of my lousy punning and assorted other joking on my part might not hold up to "further scrutiny", huh?!

All this over a "u". Not a super-flu-stitious-hero "u" like Dwight supposed either just a regular one. I only put it there in case of an emergency and it was need.

O.K. I/We had a little fun and got side tracked with the "U", Back On Topic. Terrible tragedy, if a mad man wanted to kill someone and guns were banned, he would use a bomb, car or whatever he can to carry out is objective, EVEN A BANNED GUN.

I read a statistic, and again, this it to reinforce Steven's point, not to get political, that this is a violent country. Where there's a will there's a way. Not only do we outnumber all other civilized western countries in gun deaths per capita, we vastly outnumber other countries in knifing deaths (probably baseball bat and crowbar deaths as well). I'm waiting for the ban on cutlery to make it's way through congress.

In Britain they have banned cutlery, that seems to be the weapon of choice. Well, they banned firearms.

When I was going to school in Fort Collins, CO, I always had roommates. In one place, my roommate Tony and I were pretty heavy into guns. We'd go shooting regularly. One of my other roommates, Rob, would say something ignorant and inevitably one of us would say to him, "Don't make me shoot you." One night he had us rolling with a comeback. He was sitting on the couch, eating his soup and rocked the line, "Please, I could kill you with this spoon before you could get to your guns."

I guess you had to be there.

You and Tony would have fit right in at my frat house in the early 70s. Other frats called us hippies with guns.

Its always funny that we seem to forget we humans killed millions of people before guns were invented. Wars, murders, acidents with "cutlery". We are a violent breed and always will be.
I would be willing to bet that practicing with swords and axes probably killed a lot of people, or at least dismembered them.
Also why is it that cities with carry permits actually have a reduced crime rate. Were cities that have out and out bans like D.C. have horrible crime rates.

When refering in gereralities it is understood that there are exceptions.
However generalizations are generaly true.
Humans have exibited a huge appetite for violence. You don't watch violent movies or play violent games or laugh when a violent accident happens to someone. I know you are mad at me cause I "dis-ed" Canada earlier in another post
I really was just joking with ya, and ment no offence.
