Jo & I have been away for Christmas.

Here is what we came home to.

Luckily enough we are 20 Klms. outside town on high ground.

Bundaberg-Queensland Floods.

They reckon the river will peak tonight at 12óclock, at 7.8 mtrs.

They have closed all the bridges going north. The IGA supermarket is completely surrounded by water. We had to get home today via Rosedale rd, Bucca RD and Birthamba Rd. The main Gig Gin Rd has been cut for 3 days at Splitters Creek.

Our place is OK except for waterlogged paddocks.

There are quite a few houses that have been flooded,

The Melbourne Hotel is 1 metre under and will get worse by morning.

Glad to hear you're out of the hot zone Frank. Don't wish this kind of weather on anybody. Keep safe.

Floods near me here too at times and I lived near a very bad one in 1972. Buildings had water in the 2nd floor then. Lucky ,like you, I have always been living on high ground. Hope none of your friends got caught up in it.

Glad your place is okay Frank, but it doesn't sound good for a lot of people. Here's hoping the rains let up sooner than later.

Better start roundin' up all those animals two-by-two there, amigo! That don't look good at all!

You DO know the exact measurement of a cubit, don't ya?! It's the length of your forearm, dude!

(...hope you and yours continue to stay high and dry!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Back on line again after 2 days with no phone line due to broken fibre optic cable under the flooded Burnett River.

The river has started to go down after peaking at 9 metres.

Over 400 houses were flooded around the CBD and North Bundaberg.

I don't know when we will be able to go into town again as the roads are still closed.

We were one of the lucky towns, Emerald and Condomine have been evacuated as the water is still rising out West.

It's the highest flood levels for over 50 years.

We were lucky, the water stopped rising about 200 metres from our bottom paddock.

I do not envy all the people in town that will be returning to their homes and having a nightmare of a cleanup.

Yep, The floods in your area made the CBC news last night. Not pretty at all. At least our winters don't destroy our roadway in a couple of days.

I thought you guys normally had a shortage of water.....

No horses. We usually spend that much time away from home we couldn't look after them.

My 2 bikes live in my workshop.

Jo and I drove up from Bribie Island on Wednesday and we lost count of the number of cars and imitation 4WD's with smashed wheel rims. When you drive into a pothole that is 200 - 300mm deep no wonder.

We have a 4WD with 31 inch tyres (Note the y in tyres) all we get is a large jolt.

Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink.

It's the colour of a rusty can. They are trucking water into some towns because their treatment plants and power supplies are under flood water.

My GF use to have 5 of them (to much time and money to keep them) traded them for a two wheel horse. She was a "mid-wife" for a thoroughbred breeder in her younger years (checking over my shoulder).

I only know 3 things about horses.

1, They eat a lot.

2, They sh*t a lot.

3, I back them and they loose.

Wow... 31 inch tires (note the "i" in tires). Those potholes sound rather treacherous. When I lived in Africa where you could go fishing in the potholes they were so big we used to say, "if you see a someone driving down the road in a straight line, they must be drunk!"
