UPDATE:

Our son Dale lost his battle with cancer yesterday afternoon. He died surrounded by family and friends and he is no longer in pain. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts during the past year.

Damn this is tough!

Please - instead of condolences, just hug your family one extra time.

Steve & Sheila Glaser

My heart breaks for you and your family. Sage advice from you, hug your family. I am 6 days away from the first anniversary of my Mothers passing, it is not easy.

I am so terribly sorrowful for you. I can only imagine your pain. When my first child was born I felt I had achieved immortality of sorts. I knew that there would always be a part of me on this Earth. I hope your granddaughter can keep a part of Dale with you.

Heartbreaking. And his poor little girl. Now I'm gonna say a little prayer for her.

I am truly sorry to hear this. I've been gone a while, in part because my grandfather who raised me as one of his sons was battling cancer. I was with him when he took his last breaths and while I do not pretend to understand what you are going though loosing a son, I do have firsthand experience with the evil that is cancer and weep with you in this time of loss.

Consider yourself fortunate if your family can pull closer together through this terrible experience, mine has splintered into individual pain rather than collective condolence.

I know you said not to, Steve, but I have to say I'm sorry to hear about your beloved son Dale. Please accept my condolences on your loss.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Always a loss for words and/or not knowing what to say in times like this... sorry for your loss.

Steve, my deepest sympathies to you. I'm currently going through this with my first Stepdad, so can only imagine how you feel, but am trying to prepare myself for the inevitable.

As others have said Said, I'm weeping with you for your loss.
Your advice is spot on!

And like Rev said, pull close.
