Hiya, folks. I've been running the JCW shorty martini shakers for a couple of years now, but I'm finally hitting the point that they're just too bloody loud. I've re-packed them with fiberglass 3 times and once with steel wool (current setup), and while the bike does sound like ****** on wheels it's a bit much, especially in this very urban environment.

To be fair, the bike does run really, really well. Current setup is 904 kit, port 'n' polish, K&N pods, 155 mains, heavy clutch springs, and the Emgo cans.

I've been snooping around for options as I'm not super keen on dumping $600 on the cans. I like the D&Ds very much, but I just don't have the dollars.

Instead I'm considering Supertrapp megaphones, but I wanted to see if anybody had tried them, and what successes they had. I like the idea of having it tuneable, and I like the idea of being able to regulate the noise (and power) relatively easily, I just don't know if anybody's ever tried putting a set on a Bonneville engine.

Thoughts?

I always dug this Italian Speedmaster (can't remember who owned it) with ST's, which is why I saved this picture.

Then take the long way home, Romeo.

I'd be interested to hear what one of our bikes sounds like with a set of Supertrapps on it. I've never had a set on any bike I've ever owned, though I must say, I'm intrigued at the idea of being able to make changes in volume/output.

OK, so let me ask this stupid question: the header pipes are 1 3/4", right? (I knew this once upon a time but have long since forgotten.) If so, looks like these should bolt right on... right? Might have to fab up some support, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

The ones Jaeger listed are 19" long...in the picture it looks like there is an extension pipe (second joint past the forward control) to the muffler...correct ??...I remember the turnouts and cocktail shakers I have mounted at that second joint.

Thoughts, gents? (and ladies?)

Heh, I could probably re-use the ones I have, but we'll see.

So far the Supertrapps are sounding like a better and better idea. They're a reliable "name brand," they're relatively easy to get, they're relatively inexpensive (I've found 'em online for around $300/pair), and they're about as versatile as you can get with the tuning disks.

I mean, it's hard to get WORSE than what I have, as most folks accuse me of having no baffle in there at all, which simply isn't the case.

Anything else I'm missing here? I'm hoping y'all will provide an "idiot check" and point out if I'm missing something obvious. Otherwise I'm going to start seriously looking for the best place from which to order.

If you are going to mount them as in the picture above be prepaired to drag them through the turns. If you like turns of course at a descent speed. They do look nice. I had my mufflers mounted like that, but a different brand, and I found that I could drag them pretty easily. I had pipes made with a slight bend upwards and mounted them back by the back of the bike with an upsweep. I have not dragged them yet.

Very good point, sir. Yeah, uh, I'm very much of the "curvy roads are the best roads" school of motorcycles.

I haven't had any problems with my current setup, but the ST's are a different shape, and I think they're a bit larger in diameter. Need to be careful on that one. Good call. May have to fab up some midpipes or somesuch.
