maybe with the spoke wheels and kinked exhaust it's still kind of a throwback to the originals

Sorry to go against the grain here, and correct me if I am wrong, but. as far as I am aware large front wheels slow steering down, so , why put a smaller wheel on the America which has always been more of a cruiser with the higher bars, and then put a larger wheel on the Speedmaster which has always been targeted as a more mean, hot rodded style bike? me thinks it should be the other way round. As for loosing a disc off the front, sorry big mistake!. The rear pegs have been relocated forwards which means sales will fall at newspeedmaster.com as lots of people, me included, have forked out for their items to do just this. Why a lower seat height? the old one wasnt really stratospheric now was it!. Chopped of rear mudguard and smaller front one look okay, I will admit that. What most of us wanted was a 6th gear, a bit more ooomph if possible (904cc anyone)and a more reasonable pillion seat(so we didnt have to fork out for the America one). I agree with SOREN the 2007 Speedmaster is looking more like the defining model ( did I mention I have one?) as the new one seems to be morhping into something different

Nope Dave, I doubt that's it because the originals had no kink in their exhausts, which was one of the complaints the "Old Guard/Traditionalists" had about the Hinckley Bonnies back when they first hit the market in '01.

Good points there, Neil. However, I think the reason for the change to a more differentiated look between the 2011 Speedies and the America is that Bloor's Boys wanted to give the America even more of a laid back American-styled cruiser appearance, a genre of bike where quick handling isn't as important as that heavy cruiser look is, and to give the Speedies a lighter, more Bobber-esque and..well...more "speedy" look.

This is probably not a popular opinion, but it's just that...an opinion. I don't know, I just think they keep getting uglier and uglier. First no more spokes, then the ugly tank, now the speedy has an ugly rear fender,(it just sticks up too high IMO) and wheels from a 1984 huffy, and I guess the America didn't look quite enough like a kawi vulcan 900 classic or a suzuki boulevard, so they went ahead and corrected that. Now it can be lumped right in with all the other jap bike harley wanna-be's. I do like the front forks on the speedy, and I do like that they're differentiating more between the models. I also think it's a great idea to sell the america with the touring package. However I'm no marketing genius and there are a lot smarter people than me making the decisions over there. I know also that change is imminent, they can't just keep rolling out the same looking bikes every year and expect them to sell. I mean nobody buys bonnevilles right? I know many don't agree with me, and that's ok, but if something happened to my bike I'd go find a nice used 07 or earlier speedy or 06 or earlier America before I bought one of these new models. Ok, running and hiding now.

Just a FYI the specs are up on the US site and the america is a 130/90 16 up front and the speedy is a 100/90 19. I want the fat tire on the speedy I hate tall skinny tires. And it is still calling for a twin disc up front I still wounder if they made one with one disc to show off the rim in pics.

that's weird, because I already posted what I copied off the site about the tire size on the America for 2011
Quote:
this came off the Triumph site in the specs
Wheel Front Cast aluminium alloy 12-spoke 18 x 2.5in Rear Cast aluminium alloy 12-spoke 15 x 3.5in Tyre Front 110/90 R18 Rear 170/80 B15
I saw on the US site it's the numbers you posted. Where are all these different numbers coming from? Why would the UK site be different?

I think we are seeing it as they are changing it. No we are hoping the pic is wrong and the specs are right on the speedy. I had to laugh at triumph the other day I when to a sprint unavailing the other day The oner was bitching to us that triumph is telling the public about the new stuff before they tell them she finds out about the stuff when her costumers start calling her. Thats not right I guess they don't want leaks or something.

Afraid neither of these wets my whistle much. IF I were to trade my blue (I WON'T), it would have to be for the T-Bird Storm. Now THAT wets my whistle nicely! (well, and maybe the Sporty Forty-Eight also, saw one in Nederland the other day, SWEET!)

I have always wanted to lace a 16" wheel to the front hub on Wendy's bike. I think it would look great with a fat 16" up front.

Boy, I'm loving my mulberry/graphite 05 America more every year. Personally, I think the original tank was absolute perfection and I love my laced wheels. I will have to get new tires this winter and I was thinking of changing sizes a bit, but now I definitely will stick to the original sizes. I'm starting to worry what I'd do if something happened to my bike.
I also have become attached to my carbs, chain, and can live with tubes if it means getting to keep my wire wheels.

If you went to a 16" wheel from an 18" up front, would you need to lower the rear with shorter shocks, or would that be necessary?

I already lowered it 2" and I would put a tall fat tire on that 16" rim.

just at the Fastenal place to pick up some bolts for work (on my Blue of course), and one of the guys came out and asked me if it was a Bonneville. After I explained the America thing, he opined that he was thinking about a new 2011 Thruxton (which he showed me a pic of and I have to say WOWOWOWOWOWW!!!), but was concerned about not having enough power from "things he'd heard" After I explained that I have never, ever had a power problem with my old pre-injected "small bore"(grin) and how rock solid reliable it was, I hopefully left him moving in that direction. I also have to say that I wish I had some spare cash, because between that Thrux or the T-Bird Storm, I would love to have that upgrade, no, strike that, not upgrade, but addition in my garage.

i've always like the look of the america, but that low seat and forward peg puts extra pressure on a lower back that's taken a lifetime of beatings. tall bikes with rearward pegs 4 me
