Well I have seen many people asking just to get a search for it reply. FYI if you search you don't find any instructions or many pics about a DIY Freak. So for people who have done this, help those of us who want to. Post up some step by step instructions and/or pics. NO SEARCH FOR IT REPLYS. I have searched the web with no luck.

Check out Bellacorse.com. They have a DIY freak kit for about a third the cost of a freak kit.

I love the idea of doing this but realy how is it in the rain. Because on many nights I ride to work and my bike sits out in the rain.

I don't have any of the stock covers. My air filters are completely exposed. If I'm going to be riding in significant rain I'll put on my Outerwears water-resistant socks over the filters. Never had a problem running in the rain this way.

You should keep a bike cover at work!! It'll keep the seat dry (along with everything else) even when dew settles on it when its not raining.

That's a great idea! I ride to work frequently and I happen to have two covers. What a simple idea! That way, one doesn't have to carry a cover around. It's like keeping an extra jacket at work.

I did alot of reading on both forums before cutting up my airbox. I get alot of comments that alot of people have no problems riding in the rain, even with the filter exposed.
Nevertheless, I installed Outerwears as a precaution.
On my recent trip to Thailand, I was caught in heavy rain on my return trip. Just about 40km in the rain, my bike started stalling every km or so, and it had to do this at a road where there was no shoulder to stop at with large container trucks whizzing by in the rain.
I will be looking out for a new airbox and putting it back on.

Many of our members bikes do this, even with the stock airbox. Kickstand switch, etc.
And you may see me tonight

I have exposed filters no socks, no cover and many miles of rain and no problems. I also still have my stock airbox in my atic completly intact and collecting dust.

Were the air filters soaked? Because I'm thinking your problem was water in the gas tank breather tube which creates a vacum in the tank and results in symptoms just like you described. You can check for this by unscrewing the gas cap and if the bike runs fine for a mile or two that's the likely problem.

I have ridden through rain that made cars pull over and couldn't see the guy in front of me and my bike never missed a beat. I have pods with nothing on them. I rode from NE PA to Laconia NH in the driving rain so hard that I couldn't see the tail light of my friend in front of me. It rained that hard most of the way and my bike never skipped a beat, even when it wasn't raining that hard it was still raining.
