Well to cut a long story short I manage to come off the speedy on thursday night. Now you are all wondering why it has taken me so long to post.... I have only got out of hospital this afternoon. What happendwell I was on my way home and was doing around 40mph when I braked to go over a sleeping policeman on a slight bend, the bikes back end just went from underneath me, I corrected the slide but unfortunately for me I had no room as the kerb was in front of me and the bike went down,it landed on me, flipped over and carried on down the road where it came to a standstill against another curb with me by the sde of it. What I had braked on was a manhole cover in the rain. I have literally smashed all the bones that form the wrist in the hand As you can see in the pic above, all the small bones I have shattered as well as broken the radius clean in half. I also have managed to dislocate the hand and tear the tendens and nerves all at the same time. BikeI think the frame is bent as the upper fork shrouds have literally punched two dents into the tank, handlebars are twisted as well as the usuall stuff when laying the bike down. Just waiting on the insurance company now to see if I am right or wrong. The specialist says that I will lose the use of the hand and my bike days maybe over but time will tell.

If the loss of the use of your hand ending you riding days is the concern, it doesn't have to. I hope you regain the use of your hand but you can still ride if you want to either way. I hope the bike fairs OK too.

Ray, I hope you wont need to, but if the worst happens you could contact NABD to see what suggestions they have so you can keep on riding A few years ago, my ex brother-in-law lost his right leg below the knee in a bike accident, and we all thought his riding days were over, and as he's a dispatch rider, his job too. I don't know how he does it but he's been back on the road a couple of years now, so there is hope for you Keep us posted on your progress

I spoke to Ray earlier.
The biggest concern he has over his hand is not the riding thing.... important though that is, I've already suggested ways around it - but the fact it's his writing hand. It's not his throttle hand either.
I'll say it here too...
Get well soon and keep in touch x

Just read your post mate. You know where I am. As already said, take your time, no rushing, LISTEN to your physio and do all the boring crap, it does work!!

It's not the temp loss of writing he's worried about I told you earlier mate, attempting to light a roll-up while negotiating a man-hole cover and a speed bump is not your best idea to date! Until the op and the healing process sets in, telling you you'll not ride again is a bit rash, get well soon chap.

Crikey Ray,
I'm so sorry to hear about this. The important thing like everyone has said is to make sure you take it easy and let your hand / wrist heal properly and dont go skimping on the wrist exercises the physios give you.
I'm sure the insurance will be fine.
But most importantly get yourself well.

Darnit, tough break. Don't neccesarily believe what the med said. They usually anticipate the worst, and they generally don't want people thinking about riding again. (I'm sure they get tired of patching us up) Good luck on the recovery!

Sorry to hear about your accident Ray, but as everyone says, keep positive and time will heal a lot of injuries.
I cut through the nerves on 2 fingers a few years ago and was told I'd lose the use of them, but within 18 months they were usable and now they're fine

Sorry to hear of your spill and injuries, , wishing you a full and complete recovery. Don't worry to much about the insurance and bike stuff, that always tends to get sorted out in the long run, way more important to get healthy and regain as much use of the hand as possible. Rich

What the heck do they know?? Plenty of people have beaten bad injuries, no reason why you can't do the same.
Just get plenty of remedial exercise (rolling those smokes and lifting the brews!!) and you will soon be back.
Take it easy.

Best wishes from the Pacific Northwest Ray. Especially coming from someone who went down, almost 2 years ago, and got a new upper arm/shoulder out of it. I'm still not 100% and may never be, but I've been finally able to get back on and ride. As the others have said, do your boring physical therapy, it does help. And don't think you can't ride or write again. If you think that, then it will happen. Just focus on getting your hand in shape a little bit at a time. Needless to say, keep us posted on your status. To your full recovery and best of health!

I'm really sorry, Ray. I hope everything works out. Like someone said, they always give you the worst case scenarios about injuries and recovery. I hope your hand heals properly and you get enough insurance money to get a new bike or fix your Speedy. Paul
