No surprise. This was long overdue.
Although the show was amusing for a number of years, it declined into an unhappy show that focused more on the sad & dysfunctional family issues rather than building bikes.

Actually, I liked it when the show was about building bikes and not all the drama. Certainly not about boutiques and loser comedy acts. You could see it heading south when Vinny left. I quit watching it because of all the crp going on, so no surprise. The wiff will be disappointed though, she loved the stuff.

The long running pseudo reality show American Chopper has been canceled. After Paul, Jr. left the show and Paul, Sr. sued his son, the show finally succumbed to the same fate as many custom build shops. The finale will run this Thursday, February 11th.

Now if TLC could start a show about real builders without all of the made for TV drama, they might have something.

Yep Kneeslider.com, they might have something...that would last MAYBE one season anyway and/or wouldn't grab the present american public's limited attention span and thus have near the ratings that the Walrus Man and his sons were able to pull in all these many(and in my view also, much too many) years.

I mean by now don't we ALL know, as do the producers of these "Reality Shows" know, that unless ya have a "Snookie"(or whatever the h*ll that dumbazz Italian-American princess's name is on another of those stupid azz kind'a shows) then evidently you really don't have a ratings contender, and thus you won't make any MONEY, 'cuz the people wanna see a "SNOOKIE"(or a reasonable facsimile) on these TV sets nowdays!!!

I hate to see it go although I had quit watching unless I ran onto it with nothing else to watch. I think it went downhill after leaving the Discovery channel.

Actually Bob, ya know what's kind'a funny about that is that towards the end of their run here it appears they finally kind of branched out from just "cake decorating" the very same V-Twin powered/rigid framed/extended fork bike over and over again as they did the first couple of seasons...at least that's what was brought to my attention by some of the people who continued to watch the program, and after investigating their claim recently, I have to say they were right. Yep, Walrus Man and son(s) did actually stretch their limited view a bit, and as you may know even used a Triumph or two as their starting point.

(so, I have to at least give 'em THAT anyway!)

They did sorta get pretty far away from the original show concept. Mickey art shows, Paul Jr's design whatever company, and how do bar-b-que smokers fit in? I also liked the earlier bunch better with Vinnie and Paul Jr. Rick was the only one left that was around in the Discovery days besides the big man.

It got to where I really hated watching the clash of family egos. Paul Sr. and Jr. separating, Sr. suing Jr., it got way worse than funny family arguments. Lots of money can really change a person to the point they forget many things that are more important.

Cake decoration is what the masses watched. How many good variations can you make to a 10 foot long sled unless you make theme bikes? They had a very good run.

Reality? Which is real, the suit, the show, or they want to retire and this is the last little family act? Are they really mad or really smart. They could be fighting all the way to the bank somehow. They control a big chunk of money.

I would think they are all big time millionaires already.

Much better on TIVO, you could just skip right to the bike stuff and blow past the reality bits.

Celebrities all too often have this rush of cash that demands they spend up to their new lifestyle. I've seen it firsthand, they're much more likely to be heavily in debt and soon to be broke. Sad, they did make a few nice bikes.

Yeah, that's true enough Soren, however I hate to remind you here that the NFL REGULAR season ends just a few months after THAT, and of course WITH THAT will almost assuredly come the end of next year's 13-3 San Diego Charger's season when the playoffs will once again start anew!!!

I'm up in NY this evening, Newburgh area. The new, gi-normous OCC showroom is a mile away from my hotel. If they're open around 9 AM tomorrow, I'm going to stop by, before they close that Tajmahal.

Wow John. Leave to our friends the germans to come up with one exact word that perfectly sums up a whole complex social phenomenon.

Yep, you sure gotta give it to the germans alright!

.....I'm guessing the final installment will be a dream sequence, like the old "Newhart" show, only in this case Larry the Cable Guy wakes up startled and his wife says "Go back to sleep honey, it was just a nightmare".

Yeah.Yiou guys all hit on the problem in all these posts.I just got sick of watching all of their homes andproperty, and got to thinkin, you can only build so many of thes :choppers"like this especially, and then they are all done. to hard to ride. And when paul JR wanted the boutique crap, that was goin to far and that lazy mikey, i'd have fired him soon as the program started. So the problem being i don't think, least it don't look like any of them saved a dime. You don't keep "ranchs" like that up on unemployment checks. To bad they should have buried their differences and come up with some new stuff for different bikes ,And they they would still be riding the "gravey train". That show on the "full throttle saloon" in sturgess show. That got to me even quicker than "american chopper" . bitchin every episode about there money. And Sports has got enuff time on tv!!!. football used to be monday nite football..now its saturday, sunday nie.all three nites Thats a bit much. they always over do the shows. survivor is gettin the same way ...but she luvs it.so i have to watch some of it. i bought her her own flat screen.shes all set now sorry!!

There was one episode, long after they jumped the shark but before I stopped watching, where they went back to their old family home (it may have been purchased by/for Mikey) and toured the basement where they got started building bikes. THAT is the show I want to see. Hungry builders doing it in their garage or basement for the love of the bikes. That's why I like forums like Chopcult.com and chopperhandbook.com. Dudes building incredible stuff in their garages.

I watched the show but I lived across the street for one of the shops. So it reminds me of the area they are in and its fun looking for stuff in the shows I recognize. I am a big fan of Sr's old school bikes but the big choppers don't impress me I am a function over form kinda guy.
