Planning a 7/8 day tour of the Rockies in BC Canada next year. Any recommendations of routes from someone who either knows the area well or lives there would be much appreciated. Starting and finishing in Vancouver. Recommendations for bike hire vendors, also welcome.

If I remember correctly he lives in Trail.

I am planning to ride a part the Canadian Rockies this summer. Starting in the US, the route will go across Glacier national park in Montana from west to east. Then up to Lethbridge Alberta on CA route 5. Then route 3 west 93 north Kootenay hwy up to Golden, BC then east towards Calgary and Medicine Hat and onto the plains. It should be an interesting ride. crossing the mountains several times.

Jealous, that is some beautiful country you are planning on riding through. I have driven most of those roads in cars.

PS Remember to leave any hardware at home just in case, not welcome north of the 49th

Unfortunately, and sadly, for complicated reasons, I have had to reroute this summer's trip to not include the Canadian portion.

The reroute will be from Missoula, Mt west over historic Lolo Pass across Idaho and into East Washington and then through the Cascade mountains down into Northern California. Then heading east over either Sonora Pass or Ebetts Pass (depending on what is open) across Nevada, the salt flats Utah, and Wyoming over the Wasatch and Rocky Mountains. Then onto the plains, Nebraska, Iowa and points east.

It should be a good ride but not exactly what I had in mind.

This is the second time that I have planned to ride the Canadian Rockies and had to cancel (the first time was during the Covid) Maybe the third try!

I've ridden the Canadian side both with the car and the bike. Bike was much more exciting and interesting. I remember on the run from Jasper down to Radium Hot Springs after passing a group of cyclists slowly climbing a long hill (no shoulders) there was a fairly large tree right beside the highway, shaking like crazy for no apparent reason... until I got within a few yards of it... There was a huge brown bear tearing the tree to shreds and those cyclists were going to meet it within a few minutes. You really have to watch the wildlife along that run especially in the early morning with all the shadows. The scenery was breathtaking.

Have fun on the ride and make sure you take the time to view the scenery stopping often. I felt I was a bit rushed when I pass through due to forest fires that were forcing some road closures.
