This looks like something particularly nasty. Although they are debating how it sprang up, the real concern now is how to stop it spreading. The death toll is alarming and it's likely to massively increase. I've read that there is a lot of effort going into a vaccine. The 1918 flu pandemic killed tens of millions, I just pray we get a handle on this before it happens again.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

It's already here. A woman was screened when she came home but became sick later and has brought it here.

This time of year, I avoid going out in public much and I'm not wading into crowds of people in an urban area. I'm not paranoid but never mind the Coronavirus, I don't want the "regular" flu or even a common cold for that matter. I had a doctor's appointment last week and sat in the corner away from everyone, taking very shallow breaths. It's just plain unpleasant and inconvenient being sick - so why take chances?

I agree, I almost died from pneumonia recently and every time I get a chest cold now I get nervous. I have to deal with people as a tow truck driver and even in bloody vehicles to load them. Been on some really bad tractor trailer wrecks this past year.

I wish I could still post pictures on here, I was on one that a fully loaded grain tractor trailer rear ended a fully loaded garbage tractor trailer that was almost stopped and the grain truck was at highway speed. A coventional cab tractor with a sleeper was about 3' front to back. I have pictures of it, actually took some video of it too when we were recovering it.

Listening to talk radio over here, they were talking to a Brit living out there.
He said it's pretty easy to get out, all you have to do is use one of the many remote rural roads out of the place.

Use Google maps to see how big the surface area of Wuhan is, I have no idea how they could even think about keeping people from leaving. "Wuhan, the vast capital of Hubei Province, in central China" 8,494.41 km2 (3,279.71 sq mi) 11 million people and the Yangtse runs through the middle. Its Tet in China everyone goes home for the lunar new year starting last Wednesday, its what they do.
China has been known to under report many things like levels of air pollution no reason to think they didn't keep the wraps on this for a while

Personally I think the panic will become a bigger story than the virus. How many millions were predicted to die in the SARS epidemic.

Yes, sort of like the moral panic over vaping here in the USA. But, hopefully the Health Orgs will battle this like SARS. Their work and luck is why SARS was contained. Let's hope they get this Corona right.

We are down in Mexico, Puebla to be specific and avoiding Corona altogether sticking to Tecate ,Indio and a few artisanal.

Sort of like the weather guessers to whom every dusting of snow is a snowpocalypse. I'll take a wait and see attitude. It may be a repeat of the 1918 flu that killed millions or it may not. Panic sells newspapers and ratings.
