I usually run at least 89 octane and get around 140 miles before reserve, but lately have been running 93 octane and got 160, 180 and last fill up 191 miles before reserve. Has anyone else experienced such a drastic difference ? I think the compression ratio on these engines is around 10.5:1, which would negate the need for 93, but wow !

Was the lower grade E85? and the 93 grade "real" gas?

Ethanol content is a good thought since octane is resistance to pre-ignition. 89 ignites easier than 93 etc..

never could tell much difference in octane mpg in a bike. i mostly ran 87 & 89. I could a little bit when using real gas but my riding style varies too much.... my car gets closer to 3 more mpg with the real stuff & i have tested this out many times.
we should do this every weekend!

I almost never run E gas, there's a place near me that has 93 pure gas. I can feel the difference. Now we should talk about oil.....

Same for me, I have several options in my area. 87 , 91, 93. I run 87 pure gas in everything I own anytime I can.

I am running 91 as it is recommended to be pure by an MC web site, they even list stations that carry the pure gas. Not tried 93 which Sunoco produces and sells through a few different stations. Perhaps time to do a comparison on the new ride.

It sure was, and when you're done with your two-stroke projects, you can enjoy a nice purple moonshine concoction with hints of petroleum with aliphatic notes, a pleasant bouquet......

Running non-E (E0) gas, yes, do it if you can.
Stock compression motor, octane more than 89, no, unless non-E is only available to you in high octane.
The key to high performance is non-E gas.
As a general rule, high octane E10 will do nothing other than drain your wallet faster.
