Fired Direct TV ant put up an antenna First time to watch regular TV since before it went digital. I'm amazed, living in the middle of noplace I expected to get 2 or 3 snowy channels with mostly farm reports and religious programming. Instead, I get 52 channels (sort of, each real channel has up to 4 parallel programs streaming at once). Glad I live in the flattest part of the US because some of my new favorite shows come from around 100 miles away.Much to my delight, some of the sub channels carry the old classic shows like Babylon 5 and Gunsmoke.

We just cut off Dish. What type of antenna are you using? Anything special? I also live in the middle of nowhere and would like to try this.

I got rid of cable a couple years ago and just have Netflix and use a small digital antenna for all other channels. And I watched cable news shows a lot. Never regretted getting out.

I haven't cut the cable and may never. There are only 2 of us and we have 4 tv's, dvr, internet and even a landline all through that cable. We will drop the phone when the introductory rate goes up. They keep extending it.
Total monthly cost is more than the rent of our first apartment.
I use it. I like it. I pay for it.

Yep, unless I could get the Turner Classic Movies channel over-the-air somehow, and which I'm pretty sure you can't, I'll continue to pay for my Dish satellite service. Got's ta have my classic movies, ya know! I mean, where else can you watch Ava Gardner lookin' all sultry like she did, I ask? (...not to mention Bogart, Tracy, Cagney, Bette Davis, Jimmy Stewart, Olivia de Havilland, Orson Welles, Fredric March, et al, actin' better than most modern actors ever dream of doin')
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I got rid of all tv programming about 6 yrs ago after my wife past away. It was through Direct and in her name only so when I tried to cancel it they said I couldn't because it wasn't in my name. I told them she had passed away and they said that didn't matter, only she could cancel it. So I asked what happens if the bill isn't paid? They said they would cancel it.

I've NEVER had cable, mostly because it hasn't been available out here where I am and we are in a "dead spot" relative to getting any kind of dish signal. Never really missed any of the "vast wasteland". I DO get about 6 channels through a regular digital tv antenna. But the girlfriend is asking about some kind of cable content, so I'm gonna look at Hulu or something like it to come over the phone line. Not really looking forward to the headache but I understand it is cheap enough.

It's a Channel Master model 3020. Picked it up at Lowe's the first time a thunderstorm blotted out the satellite signal for most of the day. We are currently watching the COZY channel from Amarillo TX. Excellent reception, especially considering they are nearly 100 miles from here.

Internet connection?
Kodi. Exodus redux ccloud 13 clowns
Kodi is a media server.
Think of the others as apps. Any movie, any time is now ‘on demand’.
Kodi can be installed on a variety of devices. The simplest would be a fire stick. Or fire tv. Tons of online help. No, jail breaking a fire stick is impossible. Fire sticks are not locked!
Back to ccloud.org. You can watch it on your phone, your tablet/pad and yes on your tv through the ccloud Addon on Kodi. Use it to watch FoxNews when so inclined (not too inclined these days, does anyone like talking heads?). With Kodi and any number of addons, one can watch all 20 years of gunsmoke on demand! One can watch any current shows being shown on Amazon Prime streaming video service, Netflix, Hulu etc...
NordVPN. Get it. My service from spectrum is 100 mbps. Using the vpn speeds are, let’s see, as I write this 87mbps. So yes NordVPN is fast and being based in panama secure, no logs kept etc. I digress, streaming media is there for the viewing, it just takes a ride along a steep learning curve, and patience! Patience because scraping for streams and then finding one is a bit more than clicking on an image in the mainstream streaming clubs.
YouTube used to have loads of tv shows episodes, like gunsmoke The Andy Griffith show etc, and then came google...grrrr
Yes we have Netflix, why? See above and think,’better half’.
So, what have we been watching lately? We searched for the top 1950’s movies and watched these on demand! Unbelievable how good these where/are. TCM indeed!
Twelve Angry Men. North by Northwest The Searchers
Searching for the bestest thrillers, We watched Shutter Island (which was kind of strange) Dial M for Murder (1954 version) Stir of Echos. (Has to be bacons best performance...Wow!)
The above are not even a drop in the bucket of the universe of movies that are available.
Tonight will be The Little Foxes (1941)
The Mule. Bohemian Rhapsody, etc...

Our internet comes from the local phone company. They ran fiber optic line to the house, fast enough to serve 2 computers running as much as we can deal with.
