+1 !!!!
Some memories
When uncle Phil was in the cable car with JR and Ethan, "what is that smell"
when touring a distillery, "hey daddy, this smells just like our kitchen"
and now, "This is my rifle this is my gun"....
Ethan, you an 18 year old man !!!!!

Here's my funny story, I recall a few years ago showing up at JR's place. JR's still at work but he told me to go on in, Ethan's home. I guess the kid was 14/15 then. I go inside and yes the place smelled like a distillery But that's another story for another day. I'm in there maybe 4 mins and the kid, says hey ya like guns, uh yeah sure kid. Next thing I know he's pulling out this arsenal, hahaha. Good times. Congratulations Ethan, now go take on the world. Congratulations to JR as well, I know he's happy things tuned out the way they did.

Then why did you post? We are celebrating a friend’s son graduating from Marine basic training, probably the hardest of all the services that takes great mental and physical fortitude. If you can’t do that keep your political views to yourself.

First I would like to say congradulations, but we can't take away from the Rangers or Seals etc... I do agree , on this type of thread if you can't congadulate then remain silent.

I am just talking about Marine Basic training being the hardest. It is 12 weeks vs 9 weeks in the Army. Navy Seal training is 6 months and Army Special forces is 14-18 months of training. Ranger training is currently 61 days 19 hours per day.

it's not because it's harder, it's because Marines need the extra month to figure everything out

Well... you can ask Ethan how hard it is next time you see him.

I take it you have never served in the military. Graduating basic training, boot camp, whatever it is called by the branch you are in is quite a big thing. You go in knowing how to work at a small time job and go to a movie on the weekend and come out knowing how to defend the free world, quite a change in only a few weeks of intense training.
My congratulations to the graduate, may you enjoy your military career and do well.

I will! Hopefully they still teach ball busting towards other branches

They don’t need to teach that. It comes naturally. Just watch “Jarhead 3”. It’s not exactly “The Sands of Iwo Jima”

Coincidentally, I just watched that old Jack Webb film "The D.I." on TCM last night for the first time in years. (...and so I wonder if Ethan and his fellow recruits were ever sent out there to look for a dead flea that one of 'em had swatted?)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

DOG Seal, Ranger and etc. I believe are "schools" applied for after "Boot Camp". I may be wrong but that is what I've been led to believe.

Mac you are partially right. Every service member goes through basic training and then AIT. Advanced individual training. That’s where you train in your MOS. (Military Occupational specialty) Infantryman, medic, combat engineer, Human Resources, finance, intelligence analyst, psych ops. etc. I think there are like a hundred different jobs in the Army. I was the NCOIC (non-commissioned officer in charge) at the Airborne school at Ft Benning, Ga. also they call Ranger training a school. But Special forces and the seals are actually elite units of the Army and Navy and not a school. The AirForce and Marines also have elite units.. The Airforce has the para rescue unit and the Marines have the special operations branch which don’t get near as much media coverage as the Seals and Sprecial forces. Both have intense training also.
