Again 10 years later a car cut across in front of me making a left hand turn. My modulating headlight was flashing the LED bulb but the guy was just back from a marathon drive to and from Toronto and did not see me until too late even though I could see him looking at me. Glad I was only doing + or - 40kph Rear wheel locked up and we went down sliding into his air dam as he had come to a stop in the middle of my lane. His fault and insurance is his problem but even though the damage looks minor it may be a right off as far as insurance goes. May have to go looking for a new ride with ABS brakes. I read about the new Speedmaster and its misgivings but it does have ABS. If only one could take it for a ride but no demo days around here

Sorry to hear that.I had a tiny test ride on the new SM and I was impressed with 1200ccs Bars didn't suit me and a comfort seat would be needed in my case.

Yes sorry about the spill. Glad you are alright. MC’s are replaceable. You not so much. You could upgrade to a big Thunderbird. There are good deals on new ones out there since they have been dc’d.

Take the time to assess the damage before you let his insurance just write it off as a total loss. That’s the cheapest and easiest way out by far for them. You likely have accessories you haven’t yet thought of or forgotten and all of that adds up as well as jacket, boots, gloves, and helmet. Exhaust pipes , seats, light bars, heel-toe shifters, any far less of chrome or anodized aluminium, etc.
When I laid down my ‘09 last year I still carried full coverage insurance and thought the standard $3000 of accessories coverage was adequate. IT WASN’T EVEN CLOSE TO BEING ADEQUATE!!
And a lot of my accessories were on my bike when I bought it new, like my light bar and shifter. If it’s not on a bone stiock naked factory model it’s an accessory. It totaled mine quickly (mine wasn’t that bad and had I been of right mind I would have argued them totaling it), but that’s another story.
My point is two-fold. Don’t be taken advantage of, and if you’re insured, don’t be under-insured. The difference in premium to cover another $3000 worth of accessories was minimal and it would have put a LOT more money in my pocket when it was totaled.

Thanks for the tips I plan to take those extras off the bike as many as I can and they can have it as original. Brother in law bought his bike back from the insurance company after a crash and made out quite well. Right wrist is very sore no cracks but calcium deposits and arthritis from a skiing accident 45 years ago are causing some swelling after stretching tendons to the limit. Big ass bruise on right thigh as well but walking away to ride another day is what its all about.

It’s good to read you’re alright and have a plan. Left turners are definitely one of our biggest hazards as a group, if I remember correctly they compose 42% of bike accidents...that’s a whole lot of “I didn’t see you” out there.

Usually when I'm coming to an intersection and a car is there, either slowing down or have their directionals on (that seems to be seldom), I swerve back and forth a little so my head lights will get their attention or they will be wondering what the hell I'm doing!

I do the same, just enough to wobble the headlight and maybe get them to look my way.
in the very small town where I live, there now is the added challenge of head on with cages due to a recent spate of people intentionally driving the wrong way thru the (1) traffic circle 'because its faster' than going all the way around.

That's what I should've said, just wiggle the bars a few degrees back and forth.

Ian I wish that I had used the horn along with the modulating light, will do that in the future. This guy must have been half asleep after 10-12 hours on the road. Police would not show up because I did not need an ambulance so he did not get a ticket for dangerous driving.

The local Triumph dealer gave me an estimate (which I had to remind them to send to me after a whole week) of $6227 CAD Did not include replacement of the saddle bag and the summer screen although priced is not included. I think they added a few extra parts that might have a tiny scratch but she said that is what they do. So now its time to negotiate with the adjuster.
I sat on the new Speedmaster which at first felt good albeit the thin padding on the seat meet my skinny butt. I had a salesman sit on the bike so I could climb up onto the pillion to see how Jane would like it, too cramped and again a pad only a size 5 might like to sit on for more then 1/2 hour. The thing that I disliked the most was the "Beach" bars felt very unnatural and with a little arthritis from a ski accident 45 years ago and this last spill I could not ride it for long. Put the Bobber bars or the T120 bars on it and I'd like it more.

That stock pillion pad is just for bar hopping and looks, it’s way too small and thin, IMO. I’m thinking the comfort pillion might be a lot better but I haven’t seen it to really know, I do know the comfort seat is a vast improvement on the stock item. It looks to me like the entire passenger concept is just to answer the Bobber complaint that there was no ability to carry anyone, not that a pillion rider is meant to stay aboard for any length of time. The handlebars aren’t going to please everybody, most of the reviewers complained too. The unspoken issue is the drive by wire throttle, replacement bars will need an alignment hole to register the throttle, as I recall from repairing my friend's T-120 it’s a through hole and not a dimple.

The adjuster told me that it will be a write off now I have to find out what that means, how much will they give me and how many scratches I can live with because I cant find another bike that fits us as well. There is an 2012 with low kms that I could buy locally and tune it up to my liking as well.

I just purchased a replacement. I looked at a 2015 AMerica LT in blue a real sharp looking bike but settled on a 2015 Speedmaster with 1532 kms. SAY WHAAAT? Windscreen and sissybar backrest with rack for under book value for a 2015 in good shape. I guess I'll be contacting Fast Eddie soon for some additional bits after I see which pieces off the old bike fit. Salvage is picking the 07 up tomorrow.

I agree.I think even the "comfort" pillion pad wouldn't be good for longer runs.I didn't consider the ride by wire when I thought, if I bought one I'd need to change bars.
