I didn't see a cruiser there. I would like to see really good shots of it now that it is public too.

Ian I believe that I read somewhere that the cruiser/bobber from the spy photos was not going to be a 2016 model. I have to admit that from these photos I am impressed. The radiator looks really low profile and the styling on those bikes is very sharp! From the comments it appears that there is 1200cc T120, a Street Twin, a Thruxton and a Thruxton R, and a 900cc Speed Twin.

The important questions to me now is when will we get the cruiser models and will they have the 1200cc or 900cc engine? My biggest fear is that they stick the smaller engine in the cruisers in an effort to push those wanting more a powerful cruiser to the Tbird models.

That would be shame in a way, since I would love to see the cruisers bumped up to 1200cc. But then again, if they stay at 865cc, then there will be less pressure for me to trade up!

Well, as is often the case with us here Ian, we disagree.

'Cause, while there were no cruisers present, and of which I doubt Triumph will make one using this new platform for at least another year, and this is if they even ever bother making one at all, I really LIKE these new machines!

AND 'cause, minus the radiators of which I think are VERY well hidden and which are definitely NOT at all obtrusive to the overall appearance of these bikes, they look even MORE like the classic Triumph twins of the 1960s than do these air-cooled babies of OURS!!!

(...but then again as I said, I doubt you'll agree with me here, huh!)

They do look like the old Bonneville Dwight. And, with a water jacket they can maintain a lower temp and build more RPMs for power with a tighter motor. I think its a win. But, its an 865. Would have liked to see a bigger motor that can make about 100 HP.

I hope that I am wrong as well. I would love to see the America and Speedmasters with 1200cc engines. However with 80 odd ft/lbs of torque and 90 hp in what would have to be a significantly lighter bike compared to the Tbird models, 1200 cc America/Speedmasters would cut right into the heart of the Tbird sales.

Nice Thruxton exhaust towards the end. I guess Triumph has ditched Arrow for V&H?

Once these larger motors become common place, we will be able to buy them from one of the breakers such as Pinwall and the challenge to make one fit into our old retro scoots begins. For the naysayers of the radiator, it doesn't have to be mounted in such a obvious location to function properly. For what it costs to add just 20 HP and a few Lbs of torque to an 865, the price of a swap, may well be, quite competitive to our available options as of now.

Now that's an idea. I could see building a chopper with one of those engines using copper tubing and custom heat sinks that could look cool, maybe a steam punk feel. I could maybe do the water cooling then.

Did anyone consider that they might do away with the America/Speedmaster line due to the recent drop in sales?

I could definitely see a consolidation down to one model being that they are pretty much the same bike. I just hope to god that that bobber monstrosity isn't the replacement for our bikes.

I think if they went to a 1200cc Speedmaster they would take more of the share from HD if they kept the price under the price of the Sportster.

I don't think they are going to get below the Sportsters price, they might be about the same if the prices of the new Bonneville's are any indication. Current retail prices are: Bonneville $12,490 ($12,990 two-tone), T100 (13,490, T100 A2 $14,250 and T100 SE $14,990.

Sorry Ian, but while none of those bikes may look like any of the Triumphs YOU might have owned or now own 'cause I know you're really into choppers(and btw, I also own a Triumph from that earlier era, as you may know..a customized T120-based "Street Tracker"...an American-style FLAT Tracker with lights, and NOT like what the present Triumph company evidently thinks a "Street Tracker" is) these new bikes DO look VERY much like machines that could have been parked out in front of the Ace Cafe back in the day.

And I understand there where very few American style choppers parked out in front of that famous London establishment back when the Beatles and the Stones first hit it big, and probably because choppers handle like crap compared to cafe racers, and so the chances of any British bloke finishing one of those fabled runs and returning back to that cafe before the end of the record playing on the jukebox while astride a chopper would have been greatly diminished.

Heck, just take another look at THIS one again and which was posted earlier in this thread...

...and if THAT one doesn't look almost EXACTLY like a late-60s T120 with a vintage Dunstall racing fairing attached to it but only with a more modern upside-down fork, then I don't know MY Triumphs, dude!!!

(...in other words, these new machines look SO much like what the BRITS rode back in the '60s, and much LESS like what many of us Yanks did to our Britbikes once we got hold of 'em, and 'cause that whole Cafe Racer scene never much translated across the Pond to any great degree...well, until recently anyway!)

The only thing they have in common is they have a flat seat 2 wheels a gas tank and handle bars like a zillion jap bikes do too. They don't look any more like one of my many classic restored bikes than any other jap bike does.I currently own 11 classic Triumphs that are stock configuration. If they look more like anything British they look more like the last incarnation of the Norton I remember. The fairing looks like a Dunstal, yes the bike not so much, but of course you are so full of yourself you must be right so I will not argue my point farther.

What I do like harkens back to the days of old and that is the engine design. I can almost live with liquid cooling because of that. Points cover where it should be, don't know what that houses but looks right. The injection looks like an old monoblock carb, primary looks something like the old ones , wonder what the plug is for, I doubt they went back to primary chain and 3 separate oils. What used to be the timing window on the old bikes should have Triumph embossed into it.

The Thruxton is priced at 10k about where Sportster is. One would figure they could make a Speedmaster work at that price.

They may need to do something cool with the water cooling too to make it more attractive. Make it a design feature rather than a detraction.

I don't know why everyone gets so hung up on CCs. I rode 650cc twins for many years and was perfectly happy with them. I bumped the compression up to 10.5:1 and just tuned it and rode. I now have a 790cc twin that I am happy with and building an 865cc chopper I am sure I will also be happy with. I have crossed multiple states loaded down with gear no problem. North east PA to Yellowstone park in 36hrs on a 1966 TR6C for one trip.

Well then, once again I'll just say I'm sorry you took the tenor of my post in that manner, 'cause all I was doin' was disagreeing with your opinion and giving you examples of why I thought your opinion wasn't taking into account certain design elements and the history of those design elements.

I took no ofence at any of your posts so no need to apologize I just know it ultimately degenerates into that with you so I simple chose not to continue the debate. No animosity just wanted to avoid it. I hate to always go back to Rich, or either of the Pauls but I disagree with them all the time and it doesn't get like that. We generally discuss something, present our points of view and then agree to disagree.

I took no ofence at any of your posts so no need to apologize I just know it ultimately degenerates into that with you so I simple chose not to continue the debate. No animosity just wanted to avoid it.

Funny, but from how you replied to me I got the distinct impression that I HAD already somehow "insulted" you in this thread and that you felt I was already being "condescending", and so I'm kind'a gettin' "mixed signals" here now.

(...but tell ya what and as I just said, from here on out what say you and I never ever converse directly again, as this is starting to remind me of over a decade ago now and how almost every little metaphoric "poke in the ribs" I used to gave you when we first started here, you seemed to think I was "insulting" you...and so what say we just never talk directly to each ever again as this will probably save us both some future "ill feelings" from here on out...adios, dude!)

I'm not necessarily fixed on CCs, I do want more over all power. The 65-70 hp and 50 ft/lbs of torque that can be squeezed out of our bikes is fine for solo riding/touring but when riding two up it would be a lot nicer to have an extra 15 hp and 15 ft/lbs of torque especially in passing situations on the highway. I know that can be achieved with the 904 kit so I will go that route once I can free up finances for it.

Wow! Dwight, I remember those fights. I never thought about it. Some of us have been on here for a decade.

Yep, Ron! Over a decade now, ol' buddy!

Ain't it nice to know some things never change?!

(...yep, or as they say, "Consistency counts for SOMETHING, anyway"!!!)

Bring it On!
On condition they use the water cooling to lessen the awful racket I get from my Thunderbird......exhaust cam bobweights rattling around like marbles in an ashtray........if Japs can produce water cooler bikes which don't make such a top end cacophony, then why do we have to put up with this?
And make it lighter than the t'bird please.... Mine feels like its cast out of lead.
If they can do this, I'll be first in the queue for one.
