No post on the 50th anniversary? Do you have a 5 favorites? Hard to do, but if I had to do 5, here they are:
Don't Let Me Down And Your Bird Can Sing The Long and Winding Road If I Fell Taxman or Here Comes the Sun
But it is terribly hard to leave others out of my list.

There's no way I could only choose my top 5. As to the show last night... fairly watchable, but not great. Annie Lennox stunk, I can't believe her clear, powerful voice was hushed, better give it up Annie. And the opening act, Adam Levine?, pretty tame and passionless. Katy Perry? Pretty tame. There have been a few good covers of Beatles songs, but none on here. Aerosmith's "Come Together" was cool. The movie "Across the Universe" had some good covers. (Even the much maligned Bee Gees Beatles movie had it's moments, with Alice Cooper's menacing "Because" was a hoot!)I thought Paul and Ringo did respectable last night, but I can see the time in the near future when they should just retire. I don't want to see them becoming poor carictures of themselves. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH! Lets do a Beatles thread!

Good comments, Rich. Btw, of my fellow Boomers here who remember that night on the Sullivan Show, after the Lads performed, how many of your parents said somethin' like, "Well, we'll probably never hear of these kids again in a year or two!" I know MY Dad said somthin' like that at the time. (...though what's kind of funny is that about five short years later, I remember a time while riding in the back seat of my Dad's Caddy, "Ticket To Ride" came on the radio and both Mom AND Dad seated up front started singin' to it)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I have always liked Aerosmiths version of Come Together and I actually like it better than the original, didn't hear it last night so don't know how well they did. I am not a big Beatles fan, there are quite a few bands I would much rather listen to, Zep, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Robin Trower, Credence, etc...

Anybody feel like enlightening the kid here?
(...'cause I'm pretty much tired of discussing things with people who primarily think in terms of black & white around here)

I think you hit the weakest parts for certain. I thought Urban, Walsh, Wonder, and Grohl, and Lynne were very good. I guess Mayer was good too, but I have never really listening to him.
Dwight, I did ask for "comments". It was certainly one of the defining moments in music history, but that doesn't mean everyone has to believe it was a great moment. I will say that I go through phases of what I prefer to hear, but I will never ever say that the Beatles "sucked". There was too much there to label them as anything more than one of the most iconic groups to ever hit the stage. I am glad they came around.

Octopus's Garden and Oh Darling in the same album. Abbey Road on my 8 track turned up as loud as it could go. And then they were gone in 1970.
They broke the molds of everything that came before.

Nah, there ain't no way to address such a remark. Kinda like nobody trying to address my "superbowl/football" remark a while back. Everybody's gotta have a failing that the rest of us recognize and shake our collective head about. After all, his moniker does imply "crazy"! One more snippy criticism of the program though. All through the advertisements, the announcer kept braying excitedly, "the historic reunion of the two Beatles on one stage, TOGETHER AGAIN!" Oh cripes, give me a break. I've seen Paul and Ringo perform together at least half a dozen times, from Georges funeral tribute to just a few weeks ago on the Grammys. Typical hyperbole!

I think I like one of their songs, possibly two. Never got much into pop culture stuff. Prefer Beefheart, Zappa, the stooges, blackflag, Primus, and the likes.

Not to hijack, but I just watched the Tom Petty Documentary Runnin' Down A Dream. Maybe the best music doc I've seen. If you're familiar with Tom you know the connections with Ringo and George Harrison among many other greats. Good stuff, check it out.
The Beatles=Paperback Writer one of my favs, great guitar riff and of course great song writing

Zappa and the Mothers of invention, that explains a lot. just kidding CrazyHorse, I'm a fan.
My ex was a Beatles fan, saw them live, I still have the ticket stubs somewhere. I on the other hand lean more Stones. No doubt the Beatles had some great stuff, I hear it all the time in elevators.
