Howdy
Just looking for confirmation really. Bike was starting fine but then whilst I was wiring the brake light in I somehow blew a fuse (All was wired battery unconnected but something must have come loose and blew)... so anyway after the blow out the bike just ticked on ignition, no turn over just tick. Jumped across the starter solenoid and it started stright away...
I guess I blew the solenoid as well with my short yeah? if it starts from jumping across the solenoid is it generally the solenoid thats dead and nothing else?
Cheers Pete

Make sure all the connections are clean and you didn't burn one of the solenoid connections causing the problem. If clean it sounds as though the solenoid may be bad. There is also a relay under the tank to check that could cause the same symptoms. Make sure the starter button contacts are clean too.

Ace.. The starter button contacts are good.. I had it open and cleaned when I was puttin wires through bars. Is there a way to check the relay under the tank? By solenoid connectors are talking about the black conenctors behind the starter solenoid bolts?

It's the relay that doesn't go click click click when you turn on the T. signal, and a hell of a lot easier to get at with the tank off. You can replace it with an automotive relay, I found some that work just fine at a electronics supply for $1.89.

That is exactly right, right number of pins, in the right places and try to get one with the numbers as close as you can, but they need not be exact, just close.

Soooooooo....
I've replaced the relay under the tank... still just clicks and no start. Replaced the starter solenoid... still just clicks and no start... replaced the fuses... no start... just clicks.. If I jump across the solenoid starts instantly....
What else can I try?
Cheers Pete

Ok,I'll bung a bulb in and see what happens.
With regards battery... Would it start at all even with jumping solenoid if battery was dead?

It may push start, but these bikes do not like low batteries at all. As I found out a hundred miles from home. We tried pushing and jumping the solnoid and no luck.

I'll try battery but I thought that if it was able to start across the solenoid then the battery was fine? Is this not the case?

I've read your posts and did not see the conclusion. Did you resolve your issue? I have a similar situation. Very strange. I had the bike ( 2002 Bonnie America) on the jack for something totally unrelated. When I reassembled and went to fire up for a test, I just get a single click from the solenoid. Battery is good, replaced the solenoid (fifty bucks and a 2 hour drive) thinking that was the problem, Still have the single click. I did recently replace the relay because I'm a dumbass and I thought it was headlight relay. I realy need to get a haynes manual. So anyway now I wonder if the relay I replaced is the gremiln. I'm not sure what else to check, but the work I dad while I had it jacked didn't involve anything electrical. I did think to look for any wiring that may have gotten binded up , crushed broken etc by the jack but everything looks fine.

Hey fella, Nope.. not solved it yet. Like you I've ruled out the solenoid and relay.. fuses seem fine but have been replaced.
Really stuck as to what it could be.

Check the neutral kill switch wire that comes out of the trans, just behind the oil filter. If that became loose from the jack, she no start.
