I can TOTALLY believe there would have been a thieving dirtbag outside a harly dealer, probably a few inside as well. Sorry about your luck, hopefully it wasn't a real expensive lid.

I have never had anything stolen from me at a bike rally, dealership, or biker bar.
I did have some spider riders steal from my shop.
Sorry it happened to ya bro. If I catch a theif I will end up in prison myself.

I have to agree that helmet thieves are scumbags. After all, well worn helmets are like two day old underwear.

Lock my carbon fibre helmut to the bike always even in small town Ontario. Who needs the hassle when it is the law. Sorry some people don't have respect for others.

Good line there, Chet.

Actually, to tell ya the truth, I'm a little surprised to hear the theft of Rob's helmet actually happened at a Harley dealership.

Ya see, most the Harley riders I see around THESE here parts seem to disdain even the THOUGHT of wearin' a "brain bucket".

(...yep, it seems they think that there little doo-rag they're a-wearin' on their noggins will do the trick IF/WHEN one of these 85 y/o Arizona retires makes that sudden and unannounced left turn right in front of 'em...gotta admit though that in MOST cases those helmets WOULD kinda clash with the REST of those little pirate outfits they wear...I mean, I don't know about YOU, but I SURE don't remember Errol Flynn or any of his shipmates ever wearin' a helmet in that old movie "Captain Blood"...for you kids around here, THAT flick is in B&W, and so ya probably have never watched that one before, huh!)

Btw Rob, sorry to hear ya got ripped-off...and evidently NOT because you purchased any of those over-priced Harley products!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I usually leave my helmet on the ground between the kick stand and the front tire,(can't fall if it's on the ground). I came out of a shop one day to find someone picked up my helmet and put it on my seat! Better than being stolen but I like to rearrange where they have their GPS mounted or change their radio stations.

+1

I lock mine/ours to our bikes with a small diameter (1/8") cable (about two feet long when unrolled) and a $2 lock, BUT NEVER WHEN AT A DEALERSHIP OR RALLY!

Guess that's ONE MORE CHANGE I'll need to make!

Thieves are the worst. Usually, I try to think up an "appropriate" and creative punishment for scumbags. You know, like...the Boston bomber is put into prison...when he is put in, he is told that somewhere along the path to his cell and bathroom/rec area there is a bomb planted, which will be set off at random one of these days, set to blow his legs off. Then, after a few nerve wracking months, BLOW HIS LEGS OFF! Finally, he can spend the rest of his worthless life crawling through prison on his stumps. Can't think of anything appropriate for the helmet thief. But I know one of you fella's can!

I don't know if you guys remember "my wife's idiot friend" but she's added a couple more stories to her legend.

So, she's an accomplished larda$$ pillion ornament on her hubby's FXBFDSOB Fat Slob. They were at the Harley shop a couple days ago and left their gloves on the seat of their bike. They were ripped off. She then goes off on FB as to how this breaks "The Code".

Naturally, I assumed it had something to do with their trailer park but that was not to be the case. It was, more explicitly, "The Harley Code" (who knew?).

You see, despite what one might think, Harley rider's are morally superior (at least in dealings with other Harley riders) individuals. According to Robin (MWIF), while it's acceptable to steal something off a bike of another brand, it's morally reprehensible for them to steal off another Harley.

So...there you go.

Her other recent misadventure...when we last saw Robin she was pictured in the Harley dealer's showroom astride a Harley Soft Tail. She claimed it was soon to be her first bike. While I'm in total agreement that Harley's make excellent starter bikes for girls I think the 700lb variety might be a poor first choice.

This is a person the needs training wheels to sit in a Lazy Boy.

So, true to her word, Robin signs up for the MSF Beginner (what comes before beginner?) Class. From what my instructor friend told me, when they got out on the course she found the tamest mount available (that's fair). Once she overcame inertia and achieved forward momentum, she actually abandoned her 250cc steed as it was in motion. Jumped right off that sucker.

Completely shaken from her near death experience she declared that she was done. No more of this senseless piloting of two wheeled objects of death for her. The motorcycle, minus a rider, actually completed more of the MSF class than did MWIF.

I think we are all much safer for her decision.

Besides, another larda$$ on a Soft Tail...it's just not right.

Yes for all thieves you make them eat what ever they steal every bit of it even if ya have to cut it into bite sized chunks. And then make them pay restitution for a brand new one. Then you allow the victim to go into their home and take something they want what ever it is.

Well Smokey, there is supposed to be a brotherhood among bikers. Harley guys are pretty big on it from what I have seen not that others arent. But the only time I have been stolen from in my shop was some punk ass kids and some spider riders. Harley rider rarely ever complain about their shop bill, or shop rates. In general I find them much more pleasant to deal with.
I had a fellow triumph rider bring his bike to me after he let it set up for months. I cleaned the carbs, tank, and spark plugs, put a new battery on it. It ran great. Six months later he brought it back blaming me. After getting to the bottom of it, he had put fresh gas in rode it home and never rode it again till he got back in to town. So he let it set up for six months again. I did the job again and only charged him parts, and he still went away mad. What can I say?

Now that's some FUNNY stuff. I've got a friend (HD rider) who has a wife who I think is going to be in the same boat. He bought her a 800 sporty last week. I think she want's to be a "badass biker b. I doubt she ever had much experience even with a bicycle. I've got a feeling that she is gonna change her mind when she actually tries to ride the thing. She is about 5 ft. 3 and more mouth than anything. Still, if I'm wrong, more power to her.

I have to point out that this kind of punishment won't work for the majority of thieving scumbags. The aren't gong to have any money and they probably don't have anything in their scummy homes that one would want.

I gotta say BS to that one homeboy! I ride all year unless there is snow on the roads. And I carry my helmet with me whenever I let my bike set.

I always loop a cable through my helmet and leave it on my bike. If I have a jacket I run it through the sleeve. I use a coiled cable that coils around the support above my fork. No problems and it's the same color as my tank so it blends right in.

No sense tempting the weak minded.

Like lots of things (including all kinds of bikes), Harley riders are pretty well represented across a broad section of society but let's not pretend there is any shortage of low life scumballs among them. My best friend of nearly 40 years was drawn to the dark side long ago. As long as I don't have to ride behind him or ride his bike it's not a problem. For some reason, whenever we take a long ride he wants to switch bikes. I do it reluctantly. He IS one of only 2 people that ever get to ride my bike.

It's not, of course, like Triumph riders who we all know are all princes (or princesses) among the masses.

Well Rich, wouldn't THIS all be incumbent upon what kinda drugs you're into???

(...uh huh, ya see IF you happen to be, say, a Methhead, then MY bet is you're VERY likely to find some measure of restitution within the confines of those who have stolen from ya, RIGHT?!

Btw Chet, I agree with Rich here. That WAS a funny story there, and of course primarily 'cause it's SO freakin' TRUE...and true to form.

Reminds me of the time I was sittin' out front of a Starbucks with a cup o' Joe in my hands. These two Fat Bob riders, a wife/husband "pirate" combination, come ridin' up right in front of me and start to park their bikes.

The "little woman" was havin' ONE HELL of time tryin' to back her bike up into a parkin' space that was right next to where my BA was parked. And so, after her husband parks his bike, he jumps off it and runs over to help her park hers.

After they're done, they walked past me and I said(and I'm SURE you know by NOW how I'm not a "shy guy")..."Hmmmm, looks like that motorcycle might be a little too big and heavy for the Mrs. there, huh?! Ya know, maybe if you or her would've bought somethin' a little lighter and more maneuverable like that nice lookin' Triumph sittin' there, she might not have this here kinda problem anymore!"

(...needless to say, all I received in return was the ol' stink-eye...yep, ya know what they say, "Unsolicited advice is seldom welcomed!!!)

Well, I don't get your first reply, Dwight. As to the second, and above, I've always said if you can't pick it up, you shouldn't be riding it. Years ago, when I was a little more "petite", I had a 71 Electra Glide. I tipped it over a couple of times, and honestly, I could just barely lift it back up. But I could. As I related earlier, my friends wife is getting her a sporty. I want to put on a demonstration for her, lay it over nicely and then see if she can pick it up. But I suppose I'd would just be taken for a dick.

Aah, C'MON Rich! Join the CLUB here, dude! Who KNOWS?! YOU might enjoy bein' as big a one as evidently "some people" think I AM!!!

(...OOPS, sorry..."my bad" again)

Btw Rich, as you note, my "rule-of-thumb" in this regard(the regard of riding a motorcycle too big and heavy too either not being able to lift back upright after a fall OR one in which you can't push the sucker at least a 1/4 mile down the road, NOT the 'rule-of-thumb" about bein' a "dick") is much like yours!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Nobody ever wants to be told something they already know.

Well I would have felt silly reffering to the guy as "fellow rider" if he's only ridin 4 months out of the year!

I gotta say BS to that one homeboy!

"Well, obviously we have a thief in Lincoln Park. He's climbin' on yo motosickels, he's snatchin' yo helmet up, tryin' to get crack for 'em. So y'all need to hide yo keys, hide yo wife, and hide yo helmets cause they rippin' everybody off out here." -Antoine Dodson

Now run tell THAT!, HOMEBOY!

And you may see me tonight With an illegal smile J. Prine
