My wife used to work at an Oldsmobile dealership.
Guess who bought 'em, "old" people.

I talked to a local hotrod shop, "Superbike Mike".
Asked about bore kits, plated cylinder/iron liner, etc.
He said the "choke point" on this engine is the porting,
that 15+hp is available for the 790cc engine.
Here's a recommendation for Triumph, open the ports a little?

My stock 02 America is the only bike I've bought that I haven't done hardly any changes to. It was nearly just right when I bought it. The only thing I would wish for is a stock 900 cc motor, which wouldn't be very hard for Triumph to do. Just a little more "umph" would be fun. And, though I know this is a pointless point, go back to the "old" tank, which nearly everybody on here agrees was much better looking. But, just for fun, in a perfect world where I was King, it would be cool for Triumph to build an exact copy of the 57 650 Thunderbird with modern components. You know, same frame configuration and stuff, with the old style tins and especially that awesome nacelle. Or maybe even a 37 speed twin copy. Like Royal Enfield is doing. ( I'll give Ian space here to chime in about points. ( ................ )

"...Oh, yea and it wouldn't cost more for a deeper/louder horn."

I bought a 130 db standard auto horn (black & CHROME) from PepBoys for $15 bucks. Direct replacement in less than five minutes, and it SOUNDS like a '60's Oldsmobile!
It's work flawlessly for years now.

(SOME of you younger yutes may need to Google "Oldsmobile")

Yep, I swap out the horns on my bikes the first chance I get. If I had the space I'd put a locomotive whistle on them.

That would be sweet.

Back in the day I did the same thing with the dim OEM headlights, swapping them for halogens.

As far as the Oldsmobile, I never understood keeping both Cadilac and Buick and ditching both Pontiac and Saturn. When I see a Caddy or a Buick I assume it's a 70 year old. I wonder which marketing genius decided to keep two lines for geriatrics and lose their young people brands?

Oh man! that brings up a nuttern, the Saturn. Specifically, the Saturn SKY!

Now cheap enough to buy and modify the piss out of it! (flared fenders, ground effects, spoilers, custom grills and What EVER that little "rear grill thingy" is called!)

It's okay because there's a Pontiac version too...oh, wait.

I liked them too. A lot.

Too bad.

There was ALSO about a $15-20K price difference.

I think the Saturn Sky's were about $18-20k, and the Solstice about 35K.??

Yeah, but WHY would ANY manufacturer spend ANY extra timre/money on exhaust???

My unsubstantiated opinion is that the exhaust IS the one item that 99.9% of ALL owners change, even when they don't change anything else.

Triumph could SAVE money by putting fewer baffles with larger holes in the exhaust. Every bike test and comparison includes a few lines about how the machine sounds.

I didn't realize that. Do you know why there was such a difference in the price of the two?

I had two Saturns (my daughter still has one of them). They were absolutely outstanding cars. I put 300,000 miles on a fun little SC2 and the other is still running. The plastic body still looks like new.

The EPA controls the exhaust volume on new motorcycles sold in the USA, which is why there are so many after market exhaust systems (for off road use only).

No, I don't know.

I may have not even got my facts straight!

After checking Kelly Blue Book prices today, it seems the price for either one, for an '09 model, are equal!???

When the Solstice FIRST came out, I checked one out in the dealers showroom, and it stickered at $36K, +/-. (or so I thought) Maybe it was $26K? Maybe it was "something special"?

So, MAYBE, for the FIRST TIME ever, ol' Erle was just spewin' B.S.

BUT WHAT I DO KNOW is that I'd love to get ANY of the Saturn Sky's I've seen on ebay for around $12-15K, and THAT ain't no B.S.!

True of course but even my wife's previous Honda 750 had a deeper louder factory exhaust, her Sportster sounds real good at idle. Maybe the Triumph is tuned to meet tougher Europe noise standards?

Buick is big in China - they say that's what saved them. Cadillac is, well, Cadillac.

Never owned a Saturn, but I do miss Pontiac.
