Hi All

I’m hoping you guys can help me with a problem I’ve encountered.
Here’s the story so far….I decided to change the turn signal lens covers from the stock amber to clear lenses.
The bulbs that were supplies with the new lenses were tight fit so to make things easier I removed the bulb holder, inserted the new bulb and reconnected the 2 wires.
I changed the front right lens first and after completing the change I checked to see if all was ok…all was good.

I then did the same on the rear right signal then checked to see if all was OK….it wasn’t…. the turn came once and that was it. I did hear a small pop so I assumed that a fuse had blown.
The fuse was changed and it happened again….and again…and again
I thought that I may have reconnected the wires the wrong way around so I swapped them over, tried again and the same thing happened so I changed them again.
On the back of the bulb holder are the letters “B” and “W” so I’m assuming the black wire connects to the terminal marked B and the white wire connects to the terminal marked W?
The fuses keep popping and I’ve tried every combination of changing wire positions to try and get these working but I’m not having any luck. I understand the Horn is somehow connected to the turn signals and this is working fine so I’m a little confused about what I’ve done to cause this problem.
Now another issue has cropped up…..the bike won’t start…..everything was fine until I decided to change these blasted lenses.
My mechanical and electrical skills a pretty much non-existent so I’m hoping you guys can give me some help.

Thanks

John

If you remove the rear bulbs, and look at the socket, you MIGHT HAVE bent the contacts in that they are shorting out now. Just straighten them out and be careful reinserting the bulbs.

Hi Steven

Thanks for your reply….I’ve had a look and I did notice that the contacts on 2 of the bulb holders were slightly twisted.
I’ve straightened them up so when the bulb is inserted the two contacts meet.
Once I get my battery charged I’ll give them a try and see how things work out.
I think I left the ignition switch on when I was messing about with these lens covers so the battery is as flat as a pancake.....hopefully that's the reason why it wont start

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question.

Hi Guys

I’m still having problems trying to get these turn signals working.
I’ve removed the bulb holder and taken a couple of photographs. Can anyone let me know if this is the correct position that the 2 silver contacts should sitting at....one on top of the other?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

John

No, one should go and make contact on the side of the bulb I believe. Been awhile that it happened to me, pop the other directional out and see which wire is ground (black?)

you are creating a short circuit to ground
these tabs cannot touch eachother
one should touch the center pin and the other the metal base of the bulb.

I gurantee you this is what has happened, exactly the same thing when i changed mine, the amber bulbs seem fater and when you put them in they crush the pin inside and it either breaks or is bent. check them again. its the only thing you could have done.

Looks like all four of mine after changing bulbs, yup what those guys say.Looks like the one on the right side of pic needs to be the ground on the side of the bulb. You can see the slot where the flat metal piece goes.I have extras if ya break them.

Hi Guys

I’ve had another try to get these working but still no luck.
This photo shows where I’m up to at the moment
I’ve checked, double checked and triple checked that I have put the wires on the correct terminals on all 4 signals….I’ve even swapped the wires around on all 4 signals but still no joy.
Have you any further suggestions that I could try?

Thanks

John

Hi Guys

I forgot to mention that I have a Kisen Signal minder fitted to the bike. Do you think the short circuit that happened may have damaged it.

Thanks

John
