I put my dad to rest on Friday at Ft. Logan National cemetary in Denver. He had Alzheimer's and lived with Stephen (SS42) and I for 5 years. He was a very kind and laid back man and had his own bakery in CO. for about 25 years. He made the best sourdough bread and great danish. He paid for Stephen's MSF course and also had 3 other grandkids which he loved. It was kind of rough the last 3 weeks of his 90 years but he always had a smile for me and his other caregiver right up to the end. He supported my MC habit but only rode some old Harleys in WW II and never had his own. He co-signed with me for my fist bike a Yamaha 350 in 1971, and enjoyed hearing about my bike adventures. Sorry if this sounds like an obituary, but Stephen and I will miss him and a couple of members here had met him.

My condolences to you and Stephen, and to all his family and friends, for the loss of your beloved father, Paul.

(...Gil sounded like a great guy)

Paul and Steve, sorry for your loss. I remember you talking about his bakery down at the Rally. I know you guys have had a hard time with it lately, the Alzheimers is tough on the family. Ride in memory of the man that always supported your hobby.

Sorry for your loss but glad you didn't have to watch him long with the Alzheimer's , my step dads mom had it too but thankfully not long. They don't seem to suffer from it but those around that loved one do.

Lynn and I offer our condolences to you and Stephen. Gil is now baking sour dough bread in heaven and you know that the angels are cutting cue for his danish! I guarantee Gil is looking down at you and thinking what a wonderful son and a wonderful life he had. You are a kind soul Paul. Your dad a gentle soul. I'm honored to know you and to have met you father.

+1 It seems that you'll have a lot of great memories to share at the next family holiday and that's a good thing to think about.

Thanks for all the kind words. He was a hard working guy. He didn't retire from his bakery until he was 80 and then could out work most men half his age. Once I tried to keep up with him when I was working for him after a stint in the Army and pulled an 18 hour day trying to get the bread out for delivery. I went home to bed exhausted and he was still finishing up the orders. I was 25 at the time and he was 55. I thought, this is ridiculous and finally went back to school so I could work in field of Psychology/Social work. He had given me a job after I got out of the service when there was none to be had. I worked for him for 7 years up in Glenwood Springs, CO. Not many get to do what they love to do as a profession. He had a very full and rich life.
