Wife and I have recently returned from a visit to the states and were both really impressed by the friendly helpfull people that we met. The willingness to go out of their way to help and welcome us was amazing and also we could learn a lot about manners here down under from the americans. We were gob-smacked when we arrived in Vegas coming from our little Island-stayed in New York New York and got lost in the hotel lobby the first day just trying to find the lift to go back up. Waiting in a bus queue in Santa Monica beach a afro american guy and his wife comes up and tells me I look very tight in my hat ( had a ozzie slouch hat on) I thought that he was saying I looked drunk but found out later on that he was saying I was looking good. Informed me that he also had a few hats but liked to get out and "rock his fro". Both of the afro american coach drivers we had would have given Eddie Murphy a run for his money and had the coach laughing most of the way. Driving a bus at 75mph and filling in a time sheet at the same time seemed to be par for the course and we got used to it. A great place to visit and we plan to return!!!

I've had American friends visit here in Australia tell me how friendly and helpful the Aussies are. They must have been over here on a good week too!

I guess it's part of the tour but NYC is the last place I'd send someone visiting the US. I'm glad you had a good experience. The rest of the country is much, much nicer and far, far more beautiful. I avoid the place like the plague

I believe this was in reference to the casino in Vegas called New York, New York? It is a pretty nice hotel.

Yep. And they want you to get lost so you put a few coins in the machines.

Thank you. I stand corrected. I hope you had time for Red Rock Canyon, Zion NP, Grand Canyon NP, Mt. Charleston, Bryce Canyon, Great Basin NP, and the many other places near LV. I don't gamble and, while it's entertaining, I'm not into the allures of LV, I fly there frequently for the things NEAR it. It's right in the middle of lots of cool stuff.

We put a whole 5 dollars through the pokies and that was 5 too many. Flew by helicopter over the grand canyon and done heaps of other stuff. Found being inside the casino parts of it would get depressing very quickly. Felt sorry for the staff that had to work all day in that artifical enviroment!

I'm glad you had a good time here. Hopefully you will be able to visit again some time.

Well Kent, I'm certainly glad to hear that you and the Mrs. had a great time visiting "Sin City", however I keep hearing some sort of cautionary advice lately which says: "What happens in Vegas, STAYS in Vegas!" And so I must ask...What's up with this post of yours here, HUH?!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
