Recently I seem to have spent as much time cleaning, as I have riding my current bike, to the point that it now feels like a Sunday best suit. So with the days already starting to shorten, I felt it was time to pick up a winter project, the plan being to build an ultra clean, cut down, powder coated, fun machine - something that I can clean with a hose rather than a toothbrush. Well, here is how that starts out - an Ebay trade-in clearance from a Harley dealer in Delaware (apologies if this was someone's pride and joy) - it even looked unhappy and abandoned in the the listing photo (as if to say please come and save me). I still will keep my current bike for sunny days, but expect to see a trial of messages as I part out the bits from the new one that I'm not going to use.

It certainly appears well used; the strip down is going to be interesting.....

I was looking at that on Ebay as I'm always trying to turn friends who are looking for a bike onto Triumphs. I was surprised to see a large national Harley dealer misspell "Triumph Bonneville Americain" in the ad, especially since they're selling an "Americain Icon". Anyway the price was right and the bike looks great. Nice to see it made it to MA.

There's a tool somewhere that scans ebay for common misspellings... good way to find deals...

+1, but I think I'd get rid of those saddlebags. I've always liked the British Green.

Chopperpaul spotted it...2005, 40000miles, $3100 (plus the dealer fees), still have to take the hauler down to pick her up. I've already done a deal with MercKing for his '08 (fat) tank, plus QuantumSchema threw in a gunslinger seat when we did the tank swap. Going to bob the rear fender and get rid of everything else - simple flat silver and black (including exhausts and trees) This is going to be fun!

Eeh! Nothin' to worry about there, Paul.
Maybe the owner of that Harley dealership is just a real big fan of the movie "Casablanca", that's all!

(...or maybe he's just a recent immigrant from either France or Morocco?!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Went down to Delaware and picked the bike up yesterday, and it really doesn't seem that bad. Good news...they had it up for sale in the dealership at $4999, so feel happy with what I paid. Bad news...I think I am going to have to buy a 5 gallon drum of industrial degreaser before I can start to strip down. But I already know the first thing to go. This is the first (and last) bike I have had with floorboards. Maybe they seem worse because the previous owner kept the standard changer - but how the hell do you even get to the side stand?

Wow! The guy in IOWA really got a deal on the 2003 Speedmaster with 7000 miles the other day. Dealership here just sold a sweet looking one, black w/ red swooshes, 7000 miles, ugly sounding pipes for $3000. What a deal he got !

Certainly seem to be some crazy deals out there, but then I doubt anyone on this forum buys one as an investment

I hate to say it but with the leaves turning it's time to put my '03 away for the winter, she just takes too long to clean. At least I still have my bar hopper for when the weather gets worse....and she doesn't mind getting dirty
