i just did mine at tahe weekend, looks great. i carefully undid the stitching with a stanley, drilled two 8mm holes thro the leather and back of the bag, obtained new bolts from local hardware store about 2 cm longer than original and hey presto. just need to be careful where you drill the new holes to make sure bags line up properly, clearing both indicators and suspension,. the bolts that hold on the rach go straight thro the fender so if your new ones look a bit too long, no problem. as far as the strengthening is concerned, i sed a pair of decent washers on each hole - there is little stress to nee dmore i think, however, i have two small strips of metal which i wil drill and attche when i have time. here's a tip - if you buy an external 3.5" computer disc housing on ebay for a fiver - silver metail, you will find that wehn you puyll it aprt, the sides are ideal size and thickness for that purpose. good luck, graham

You can "glue" some fender washers to the inside and the outside of the bags with some silicone or RTV. The strain will be transmitted over a larger area instead of just squeezing it together.

I traced my bags on to a piece of 1/8" aluminum plate and bolted the plate to the back side of my bags with 2 bolts near the bottom and the two fenders strut bolts. Used fender washers inside the bags. This kept the bags good and ridgid. Painted the plate black to hide.
